Come'n'try Motorkhana Willowbank 24th February 2013 HSCCQ
The Holden Sporting Car Club will be holding a Come'n'try Motorkhana at Willowbank on 24th February 2013. It is in a couple of bitumen car parks around the back of the drag strip.
This is really fun, low cost and safe motorsport, and MX5s seem just made for it, with low weight, excellent visibility and ability to handbrake turn. And let's face it: how often do you get to do two dozen handbrake turns in an afternoon? This is a very different experience to a track day. There seem to be three or four regular MX5 punters. Try YouTubing willowbank motorkhana mx5 to see some vids of fives in action.
You can take it seriously if you want, but more likely you will have a good laugh as you disappear into a cloud of your own smoke and realize you have WD'ed. AGAIN! WD= wrong direction btw
The HSCCQ are a friendly bunch, and it is quite family friendly. Last time I was there they were running two courses simultaneously so the action was fairly continuous. Sometimes they run three courses simultaneously.
You can enter at the HSCCQ website or on the day. You do need to be a member of a CAMS affiliated club such as MX5CQ and need a CAMS license (a 30 day license can be purchased on the day if you need). A helmet is required if you are driving a convertible (soft or hard top).
For full details visit http://www.hsccq.com/upcoming-events/come-and-try-motorkhana/ a bit closer to the event.

Thanks for clarification John.
I had just sent a email to Mark as he said he had some "surprises" to announce at the awards ceremony. The cat's out of the bag now!

Supp regs are now available athttp://www.hsccq.com/upcoming-events/come-and-try-motorkhana/
You can enter in advance or on the morning of the event, but make sure you have your CTP extension, sensible clothes and a car in safe condition. Convertible drivers require a helmet, even if a hardtop is fitted. A CAMS day license can be organised on the morning of the event, and this may be credited to a full license later.
All enquiries to Keith Butcher at 07 3351 3155 or Butchy_hsccq@tpg.com.au, or try your luck posting here. If you are planning to enter on the day, please advise Keith so he has some idea of numbers.
Hope to see lots of Fives out there, especially as this event is part of the 2013 competition calendar.

Good to hear you'll be there Stu and Lisa.
They seem to cycle the photos on the HSCCQ website. One day when I was there I saw you no less than seven times! Smoke in every photo too

Re: Come'n'try Motorkhana Willowbank 24th February 2013 HSCC
Only a few days to go . And don't forget it's a MX5 club championship event, if you are so inclined. You can enter on the day, but maybe post up here if you are attending, and let Keith know at at 07 3351 3155 or Butchy_hsccq@tpg.com.au.
Interestingly, the CAMS motorkhana classes are based on front, rear or all wheel drive, and wheelbase. Which means all the NAs and NBs and NCs are in class BR, regardless of engine/turbo/sc or other mods, which can deliver some surprising results. Later, the MX5CQ administrators will have to sift the results to allocate points according to our club classes.
Should be a hoot if it's a bit damp. More like being on dirt/grass = not quite so hard on your tyres and car, with no stone chips.
Here's the forecast for Sunday: Shower or two, possible storm. Min 22 Max 30
So you'll need a hat, your sunscreen and your rain jacket, maybe. There's no onsite catering available so don't forget to bring something to eat and plenty of water. The HSCCQ will have an esky full of softies so you can get a sugar hit. That is an honour box btw, so bring a few dollar coins.
See you all out there.

Re: Come'n'try Motorkhana Willowbank 24th February 2013 HSCC
The great thing about come'n'try days is that is all about introducing you to the sport, rather than red hot competition.
The format of the day normally comprises a morning in-car "training" session, flowing into more intense try-as-hard-as-you-feel-comfortable session. The day tends to be quite continuous action, and it would be reasonable to do 12-16 courses. By 3 o'clock you will be pretty tired, and the concentration starts to drop, which is OK, cause things are normally winding down by then.
Having said that, you can leave when you need to.
Come and have a go. It's heaps of fun, and I'd be surprised if you don't get a good laugh out of it too!
