I worked out the only day I was going to be able to get to Wakefield for a test day was last Saturday so the last week was a big push to get the car ready, Monday was the big day to try to start the engine for the first time, and she kicked in to life on the first hit, big relief, there are so many connectors and thing you never know if you have it all done.
Image

Fitted the exhaust off the green car, fitted all NB8B braces, involved a bit of chopping to mount the front part to the body, the panel behind the seats is a false panel had to chop to fit the mounting bolts.

Image

Also working on fitting the C/ F hartop, I don't like running hard top but 300km in poring rain with no roof would be a struggle.

Image

So test day at Wakefield really hot horrible windy day, car was great, made a few adjustments, hard getting used to the lack of power and the ABS, worked out we need a few more revs. in a couple of spots so it will be going to MX5 mania to fit Adaptronic.

Image

Need to tidy up wiring and give the car a good polish and put on stickers so not heaps to do before the big race....really looking forward to it.

Hey Lou,
with your intake - what is the elbow bend you use form the TB part to go to the right? did you have any clearance issues with the radiator hose?

The intake is a after market cold side set up for NB, not sure what brand it is, it is very close with the big radiator but it does fit.

The car was dropped off at Mania today to fit Adaptronic and the Innovate wide band set up.

So the Wakefield 300 has been run and won( not by us)...

Was extremely happy with the car it didn't miss a beat the whole weekend and feels like it could easily go and do another 300 km.... Which it will in November at the Winton 300.

After the test day I decided the car needed the rev. Limit changed a bit so we didn't need to change up to 4th coming in to the fish hook and up the hill, so the Adaptronic was fitted, Dave at Mania did his usual fantastic work, car starts and drives very smooth...

First time out for me was on the Saturday, the track was very wet so we had the Dunlops wets fitted. the car was sensational...we were both praying for rain during the 300.
Unfortunately Qualy. was dry, we ended up qualifying 32nd...I did a low 1.11, was happy with that, I was sure the car could do that all day, we decided to run Kumho Semi slicks, great choice, they were very consistent and still felt great at the end, they didn't wear much, we will just flip them on the rims and use them at Winton.

The race started off bad with the grid marshals stuffing everything up and we were gridded at about P. 40...this put us behind the 8 ball from the start, Owen did a great job working himself back up slowly but 2 safety car periods saw us loose 2 laps due to getting stuck behind the leader and our class competition got waved around. I got in at about half way and was charging on, drove the car like I was in a sprint race, managed to pass the NC which won the class(on slick tyres) around the outside at the fish hook and then lapped him, once again passing him at the fish hook around the outside...that was fun.

We ended up 20th. outright and 4th in Class, excellent result really considering how standard the car is, shows how great theses cars really are.

Thanks to Scotts' Shots for the great photos.

There has been a small change of plan, after driving this car I have decided to put the good engine in to it and convert the green car to the enduro/rental....I think eBay special is gonna be fast.

Your cage setup looks interesting. From the first few pics of it on page 1, it looks like there is no room for the front clamps of the hardtop, and yet you have a hard top fitted on page 2. I'm wondering how you have done that??

Im nit sure if lou has done this but with other full cages you can make a simple system where a bracket is welded to the front legs of the cage with bolt holes that line up with the holes that attach the factory mounting bracket... its more solid, a bit more hassle when putting on/off but also a bit more secure.
