Also while Im in this thread, for the people who notice my new avatar, the world record for an unmodified Garret GT2560 on any Miata is 310rwhp peak, on a well built 1.8L.
The GT2560 is the standard SP turbo, its also the stock jap spec S15 turbo, and is the most popular turbo in the world for MX5 turbo conversions.
The highest peak pull Patricks NA6 has managed is 297WHP with a log manifold, 2.5" exhaust off a downpipe smaller than 2.5" and hotdogs and cats etc.
With the new manifold and exhaust its looking good to break the old 310 record. One thing is that the turbo itself runs out of flow in both the compressor and the exhaust housing at 300rwhp, so just hitting 310 means everything needs to be working perfectly and with fantastic efficiency, so that last 15HP to break the record is a big ask.
Anyways, we will see how it goes soon enough and then the car will get something serious (turbo) to match the manifold soon.

Thanks a lot mate looks like it would clear perfectly, I can cheat a bit and use the press at work if I get tired.
I am really tempted to make up a log manifold for this thing, basically in the same position but clocking the flange about 15degrees clockwise would make everything so much easier.

You could always weld 2 T25 inlet flanges together with a slight twist and fix the flow with a bit of weld and a die grinder.

I thought you'd already made significantly more than that? Have you rolled back turbo size just to claim the 310hp record?
Any rate, it's real good going, which dyno are you using? I've used most dyno's around newcastle and found all of the DD ones seems to give repeatable and comparible figures.
We went 299whp on an s15 turbo 1.6 but found anything over about 280 (maybe even lower this was over 5 years ago) you are just stretching the limits of the turboand starting to really heat the air, lots more boost, but gotta pull timing, so lots more boost equals little gain.
Goodluck with it though, I think 310 on a DD is more than 310 on a US mustang anyhow.

Hey smart alec, its around, Ive seen it too, but Its been more than a month for me. How about this setup with an EFR on it?
The car has always had this turbo, and has been 1.05 at wakefield with it. Ive been using John Collins, you can imagine the effort needed to get a 9000rpm megasquirted car on his dyno, it took some convincing.
The car is destined for a big ol' Borg but for now I figured we might as well go for the record. And yeah 300 on a DD is like 340 on a mustang anyways.
For me I really just enjoy making the setups and seeing what can be done, learning as much as I can along the way.
The 297 we made was running all of the boost, at that stage the wastegate basically wasnt moving so its far out of the efficiency band of course, but extra airflow is extra airflow.
What this car does make though is massive massive area under the curve, making whatever it was 650 or 750 NM of torque in 5th gear, around 200whp at 4000rpm.
It all comes down to time and budget as to when I can do it but i WILL build a twincharged BP miata and go for zero lag and a huge 500 or 600whp capable turbo.
I just really enjoy the learning and development side. I wish I had a local mentor who had a lot more experience than me to learn from, but for now I just build the best I can and let the times tell the story.

That EFR is goign to be interesting, can't wait to see the results - there's a local EVO tossing up the idea of an EFR at the moment too, but he's worried about the cost - I keep telling him its only money!

Yeah, it was awesome back when Jon was still running RX (Blanch, not Collins haha) cause he was super laid back and willing to share his knowledge. Even though his bread and butter was rotaries, he had a hand in quite a few piston cars, including a handfull of Bseries engines making over 300 in street cars. Even had a FWD astina there that ran 12.4 or 12.5 - YEP FWD BP engine, street tyres and all!

Same car, never ran well with the GT turbo, my mate bought it for nearly nothing after it spat a rod literally out of the engine.
Ended up with a BP GTR turbo, which is what it ran the 12s with.

Ok guys need an answer by tomorrow or I just go for it.
Is it acceptable to have the turbo outlet pipe inches away from the manifold?
The manifold will 3 layers of ceramic coating and I can get this pipe coated too if need be.
Also most people go straight up from the 38mm opening of the 2560 straight to 2", its ok to go up to 1.75" for 6 inches then go to 2"? You can see pretty clearly the silicone pipe it needs to make it to, it will take 2x 90*'s to get there.
Here is the other option and routing. Able to go straight up to 2" off here.
Also heres some new build pics.'
I swear i got some good ones of the welds up close but they all turned out blurry on my phone, Ill get some extra tomorrow.

I personally would choose Option B, where the pipe is away from the manifold (despite the ceramic coating etc).
Is there any specific reason why you want to go from 1.75" to 2"? Reduce pressure drop?
In all my previous turbo cars, I just went straight to the wider diameter with no gradual/taper in size.
The Manifold, Dump and set-up in general is looking good so far though

Depends on your goals and the intended use of the car.
While the ceramic stuff is fantastic, it's not a magic solution all together - Will teh car be in traffic stop/starting a lot? In reality sitting down low may not be as bad as you think - a lot of the hot air will rise above the manifold with natural convection, and then be sucked down and out the lower rear of the engine bay though to the tunnel.
You could get some temp sensors and test my theory, but I'm almost certain Alan did that with his BPGTR engined NA back in the early 2000s and found lower was cooler - admittedly he wasn't runnign quite that close.
The pipe diametre will likely make two fifths of bugger all difference if you're using the typical GT style turbo - what are the power goals, you know from other cars stock AVO piping to the cooler is fairly small and can support big numbers.
