Airconditioning Insulation

That is pretty dumb putting that rubber insulation next to the exhaust (I will have a chuckle when I see the fireys putting your car out on the news).
Like others have said, there is proper stuff you can buy.

You must have missed my tongue-in-cheek comment at the bottom of that post. I don't even think it improved efficiency of the system at all! :lol:

If your fan flow is that weak you might have a bunch of leaves and crap in the intake, you can jam a vacuum cleaner hose down the intake behind the firewall and try to suck them out.
It's actually really easy to get the blower fan out, just pull the glovebox out and it's only a few screws but they are Torx heads from memory.

That aircon line runs directly beside the unsheilded exhaust housing on my car so I went to the wreckers and found some foam insulation with the reflective foil coating on the outside. It was a single piece on the car I removed it from but I just sliced it up the side and used stainless zip ties to attach it, it has the 90 degree bend formed in it already and looks pretty factory.

My partner is currently doing some work on her car and has that area pulled apart, can't see any filter...

Under the cowl plate there's a hole with a piece of mesh over it, it leads straight down to the fan (which is visible through the mesh)

Call it tempting fate or what not, but i haven't gotten around to trying anything different yet. Three other much bigger projects have cropped up which i've poured my attention into. But in the mean time, I've dríven to Melbourne and back quite a few times, I'm still enjoying my cold air, now travelled well over 2500km since first posting. Driving the highway for 30 minutes i have to turn it down as it's too cold inside. Hate me if you must.

There are still another 2 months of summer to go, and i'll see what i can do in that time. I'll write back my findings ready for the next critique.
