Mine is a twin hoop, but has the torque box. No issues. I can't see how it would, except if something else was wrong already..

Got my single diagonal tall boy a couple of weeks ago, but only going to install it this weekend. Did you guys have to file down the main spacer (5) a lot with the install? And also, are all the washers given just in case spacer (5) isn't enough?

I had to take a few mm off each spacer. Not the same amount on each though. You won't be able to file it, you will have to hold it in a vice and use a cutting disc or hacksaw.

I got a massive bag of hardware with mine...all sorts of nuts and bolts and washers and some laser cut bracket things that do not even appear in the instructions

Laser cut bracket? Isn't that just the 2 supporting mounting plates? I think it's hollow in the middle now for weight/cost savings. I just got the same amount of stuff that this guy's got: http://omgpham.com/mx-5-plus-tall-boy-sparco-sprint-v

EDIT: I'm looking at the installation instructions now, and step 5 says to insert the square mounting plate beneath the hole and sikaflex. Then in step 28 it shows that the small square plate has the nut pointed downwards, under the bodywork. But mitch_f1's picture (page 4) and the picture in the link above show the square bracket above the body work and the nut pointing up. Is this a new trick for the install, or...?

No these were different brackets to the ones that go in the boot / under the feet of the cage. NFI what they are for, looks like they maybe got mixed in with bits from something else MX5+ make as the captive nuts welded to it don't line up with anything on the roll bar.

You need the nut plate to go on the underside of the hole in the body as per the instructions. Think of it like this....the body of the car is sandwiched between the nut plate and the roll bar. If the nut plate was on top the bolt would pass through the roll bar, through the nut plate and then through the hole in the car body....but wouldn't actually secure the bar to the car!

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking! But I was just confused by those pictures... Oh, and is Sikaflex a must, or is loctite/etc good enough too?

If I remember rightly I did not have any sikaflex so just used some tile grout that was laying around

The nut plate cant spin in the spot it is located so it cant work loose, the sikaflex is just there to hold it in place for the final install. Basically you are gluing the nut plate in place and then you have to re-install the seatbelt and put the plastic trim back in place before finally putting the roll bar in the car....once the seatbelts and trim is back in there is no way to get to the nutplate so it has to be stuck in at the start of the install.

The grout only sort of worked as one side dropped off after I had put the seatbelt reel back in...you could use silicone or glue or whatever.

Thanks for the advice! But I'll see if I have some silicone left over, otherwise, it'll be Sikaflex-227!
