Yeah Ben....without that rule there wasn't going to be a WTAC 2013 event.

Cheers,
Danny

It's a pity.. While it does help create a level playing field undoubtably it was based around the continuing profitability of the event not the sporting factor.. But if faced with either a control tyre event or the major sponsor and huge supporter of the sport pulling out and no event you'd always pick running the event..

But I'm not a fan of control tyres in any motor sport, particularly this kind of level where there is relevance to the consumer. F1 tyres have no relevance to what you or I can buy... But here it added another layer with relevance to the punter.. Last year it was interesting to see Yokohamas, Hankooks, Dunlops, Bridgestones, Toyos and Federals all competing. In Dave's case if he wants to run at time attack using 15s there is no size choice other than a 205/50/15 or a 225/50/15 and nothing wider than 225 until go up to 17s...

I will have to work out what to do with tyres. Everything is going to be too tall no matter if I do 15 or 17 inch.

Looks like the only option is to run the 225/50/15. I am going to get some 2nd hand ones shortly and see how they fit on the 10's. Otherwise i will use the 9's.
I will still buy some 275 hoosiers for track days to give them a try.

I have put the red car back to near stock. It just has the B.C coilovers, front swaybar, exhaust. And the compulsory seat, harness and rollbar. Also gave it a full service, all fluids, mazda speed engine mounts, etc. And it has only just had the brake rotors and pads done last time. So it is all set to enter standard class in victorian super sprint, and modified in the mx5 club vic.

Doesnt the Mx5 club modified class have a 90rwkw limit?
I thought you posted your car had 110kw with the exhaust done. Or was that at the flywheel, not at the rear wheels?

110 was a typo. My guess was about 100kw for sales purposes. I have put the standard air box back on, and changed the muffler to a quieter/more restrictive one as the car was too loud. So it will be back to under 90 again, as it is little changed from when it went on the dyno for its 88.9rwkw run. I highly doubt you can get over 100rwkw with a stock motor and ecu.

I did the first round of the vic ss at Phillip island last Sunday. With the car as pictured except the wheels and tyres.
The new track is very good. I was in the fastest run group, with all race cars. Looked odd seeing a little red mx5 gridded up amongst all race cars.i actually had an official come up to me to ask if I wanted to go into a slower run group, and wanted to know my lap times. The day was running so slow, I was not about to wait for another run group, so stayed in group one. And I was around the middle of the field anyway. I did a whole session following an r35.
We did the same lap times. Best I managed was a 1:53.8. I was hoping for better, but if you rember last time I had a fastback, wing, splitter, skirts, spoilers, etc. I suppose a 1:53 is o.k. Softtop would be nowhere near as good as the fastback for aero.
And I only managed second position. Guy must be cheating.... He beat me by 0.1 in an elise.... We beat most of the other classes in the higher groups, so can't complain too much.

And the c.f car has had all the suspension bushes installed, Coilovers purchased, alloy tank being made, drivers seat is being lowered via a hole cut out, and box fabricated in the floor. Steering wheel on. I should have all the suspension done soon. And for the first time sitting at the right height.

I noticed Andrew put up a post today about the WTAC rule update

http://www.worldtimeattack.com/index.ph ... rsion-1-3/

Haven't read them, hope they don't effect your build.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
