Hard Top Stand from Howards Storage World

Postby RaYmO » Mon Jan 14, 2013 11:17 am

Hi Guys,

Not sure if you're aware, but Howards Storage World is now selling flat packed hard top stands for the MX5 :D

The only minor change is to get the horizontal bar to fit the base - you just need to cut a 1mm groove with a pair of snips about 3-4cm long so that you can squeeze the plastic edge into the hole at the base. Once the edges are in, a hammer/mallet will come in handy to put it securely in place.

The only things missing from this kit are a few pool noodles and cable ties. I'll include pics once completed (having troubles finding a black one).

The other thing I was thinking of was to fill the horizontal pipes in the base with sand so there's some extra weight at the bottom, I'll cable tie some weights from my old handweight set to hold the base firmly to the ground... I have rested the back of the stand against a rock wall so it should be relatively stable anyway but I want to be certain it won't fall over.

The Hard Top stand from Howards Storage World is on sale now for $50

Would be interested to see pics of a hardtop sitting on one of these. What are they originally sold as?

To me it looks like a clothes rack....hang your clothes on the bar at the top and the bottom bit is a shoe rack.

Guys, it's a mobile dual clothing rack.

I simply reconfigured it so one of the clothing racks is installed as normal, and installed the horizontal bar of the second rack at the base to secure the hardtop in place.

The extra vertical bars were then mounted behind the "properly" installed rack for extra support.

This is what it would look like if you had installed it properly:
