which charger

hey peeps, I'm after a battery car charger but I Don't want to spend an arm and a leg. There are supercheap ones for around $80. Below are the links for them. Are these any good or should I be looking elsewhere. Any other suggestions most welcomed.

jaycar has a few for not much more and they are much better than the supercheap ones.

If you only want a charge and maintain charger go for the Projecta AC250B it is a fantastic unit I have had one for 7 years nad use it on my cars and bikes to keep the battery at peak level. If you want to choose from those 4 go for the Projecta AC400.

ive been using the 12-24v version for years in some pretty extreme conditions and haven't had any problems.

strangely in the pics they are different but i have one of the jaycar chargers infront of me and it definitely looks like the one you posted. either way they are really good sealed chargers with no fancy electronics to worry about.

Or, you can get this one from Jaycar for $49.95 I have used it both on the 5 and our Subaru Outback. Works like a charm.

OK Had a closer look,
The Ctek has 4 charging modes, One is a recondition mode that will desulphate a battery to give it longer life,
or recover it (as it did mine) after a long period of low charge.

I have a Haigh BatteryLink. Total POS though it's a fine example of how you can use modern technology to stuff up something really simple.

Battery Link “Pro-Series” chargers feature micro processer technology to controls the entire charging process by electronically monitoring the batteries current & voltage and determining what charging rate is required to keep the battery in good working order.

This charger requires a small amount of charge in the battery to enable it to determine what sort of battery it is before it will start charging. If the battery is flat then it won't charge. Only way to start charging is to connect a good battery in parallel for a while.

if you haven't got another battery(and why should you if you have a perfectly good "smart" battery charger)try shorting a brake globe across the terminals to get it started,it works for my "smart" 12 amper.(which I got from supercheap by the way,and otherwise very happy with)

Yes got me one of these as I accidentally left the interior on my Mazda 2 light on for 2 weeks while i was on holidays - DOH!
Mr RACQ sold me one and it works like a charm. Got me dead flat battery full charged up again. Now I just plug it in using the adapter that sits permanently - its like having a electric car
