which charger
hey peeps, I'm after a battery car charger but I Don't want to spend an arm and a leg. There are supercheap ones for around $80. Below are the links for them. Are these any good or should I be looking elsewhere. Any other suggestions most welcomed.

Re: which charger
If you only want a charge and maintain charger go for the Projecta AC250B it is a fantastic unit I have had one for 7 years nad use it on my cars and bikes to keep the battery at peak level. If you want to choose from those 4 go for the Projecta AC400.
I would suggest buying either from Burson Auto Parts you will get a better deal as Burson do trade price on all parts for members of the MX5 club. Show your badge and quote Acct No. 112558
AC250B - $51.15
AC400 - $47.96

You will absolutely NOT go past this bargain.
I have one of these and it really is an amazing charger.
Brought a battery that had been sitting around discharged for 12 months back to life...I tried it just for a laugh
It will trickle charge for eternity, do 6 and 12 volt and charge Odyssey style batteries
This price is 24hrs only with free shipping !

Re: which charger
Don't think it's the same one but looks like functions are the same.

Re: which charger
strangely in the pics they are different but i have one of the jaycar chargers infront of me and it definitely looks like the one you posted. either way they are really good sealed chargers with no fancy electronics to worry about.

Re: which charger
Or, you can get this one from Jaycar for $49.95 I have used it both on the 5 and our Subaru Outback. Works like a charm.

Re: which charger
Ctek has been lauded amongst the best available, more so if you compare prices. I think they originate from Norway or some such place.

Re: which charger
OK Had a closer look,
The Ctek has 4 charging modes, One is a recondition mode that will desulphate a battery to give it longer life,
or recover it (as it did mine) after a long period of low charge.

Re: which charger
I have a Haigh BatteryLink. Total POS though it's a fine example of how you can use modern technology to stuff up something really simple.
This charger requires a small amount of charge in the battery to enable it to determine what sort of battery it is before it will start charging. If the battery is flat then it won't charge. Only way to start charging is to connect a good battery in parallel for a while.Battery Link “Pro-Series” chargers feature micro processer technology to controls the entire charging process by electronically monitoring the batteries current & voltage and determining what charging rate is required to keep the battery in good working order.

if you haven't got another battery(and why should you if you have a perfectly good "smart" battery charger)try shorting a brake globe across the terminals to get it started,it works for my "smart" 12 amper.(which I got from supercheap by the way,and otherwise very happy with)

Re: which charger
Yes got me one of these as I accidentally left the interior on my Mazda 2 light on for 2 weeks while i was on holidays - DOH!
Mr RACQ sold me one and it works like a charm. Got me dead flat battery full charged up again. Now I just plug it in using the adapter that sits permanently - its like having a electric car
Solid quality and maybe cheaper to buy online too.

12V: For all lead-acid batteries, Step 7: Fully charged battery, Step 8: Maintenance charging, Temperature sensor, COLD/AGM: Charging in cold conditions and AGM batteries, RECOND: Recondition of deeply discharged batteries, SUPPLY: Use the charger as a power supply
