Roof Vent Part 2

Well a trip to Bunnings for a new rivet gun and finish off the roof vent:

After Gap

Rivets done

Just need to touch up the rivets (and the inside of the hardtop) with some black paint and all is done

The rubber drain hose (8mm ID) has been put down the passengers side drain. Just need to do a test drive and see if it rattles, leaks and actually ducts some air in!

Well the vent does its job very well, however at a price. The price is increased wind noise in the cabin even when the vents are 'closed'. At 120 on the freeway it is a little much (noise wise open or closed) however the air flow on a track whilst wearing a helmet it will be a blessing especially when matched to the vented window GB and the over-ride switch for the air con fan.

I have to ask.... Wy not just run topless? With all these vents and air being brought in, wouldn't it be simpler to ditch the hardtop?

Well the exterior just has the front splitter to go as my GV Bonnet (courtsey of Rupewrecht from AstinaGT Forums) will be in for paint soon together with the vented headlights from mrpham. Plus the washer noozles (that turned up to day) and some aero catch bonnet pins will also be going on to the GV bonnet.

Engine wise ITB's from Competition Systems have been ordered, discussed the engine build with MX5 Plus on Thursday when paying for my son's MX5 after its short nose engine failed. Engine should be in around late Feb 2013. Then it will be time to enjoy the MX5 whilst finishing off a fiberglass boat I have in the shed now as well as the Fiat X19.

What! What happened to no itbs due to cams and police restrictions! Sorry I never replied to that pm. The rest of the build sounds good

sailaholic, I found a way of doing it legally plus no longer keeping 2F due to final bore size. So ITB's back on the agenda :)

At the worst it will have to be CAMS 2B. I'm still aiming for the 6hr Philip Island reliability in Aug plus maybe some of the QR time attacks and or mid week sprints. My roster sucks this year as I miss quite a lot of the events so I will be focusing on seat time this year and get ready for 2014!

You introduce a huge amount of turbulence. The roof vent maintains less drag and more downforce so it's a better track option.

Cool, that will make 4 itb car in brisbane soon then!

I know tbro has made a comment before that 2b might be better. I think it was along the line of Costs a lot of money to run at pointy end of 2f. Run is 2b, still won't be at the front but can run more fun bits on the car!

Yes they are. There will have to be a meet up with the people in Brisbane with ITB's. I will see if I can do a Nebo run on the first Friday in April.

That is my thoughts, 2F no rear wing (unless OEM) 2B rear wing allowed. Not looking at being front of the pack just looking to have some fun and enjoying myself.

Well I have just ordered some 4.5mm black haircell ABS (2440mm x 1220mm) to build the front splitter. So when I am home next I may start tracing out the shape and looking at ways to mount it (more than likley the same way Charlie has).
