Victor, how would you feel about a couple of extras joining the group towards the northern end of Putty road, about 25km south of Milbrodale? My thinking was that we could head there from Newcastle, find a safe spot on a straight section to pull over and then jump on the back of the group as you head by. You're organising the run though, so it's up to you whether or not you're comfortable with that.

What a turnout guys and gals?! At this rate, we might need a 2 group arrangement again.

On another note, Rob and I had a 'practice run' of the route last week and it worked out to be ~ 350kms from Windsor > Wollombi > Hornsby.

If you drive a petrol sucking monster like mine then please make sure you get a full tank of fuel at Windsor just before you arrive at the meeting point (Maccas). Otherwise, you might not get the fuel you need from Broke.

Of course we don't mind mate. May I suggest that you wait for us at the old Truck Shop as it's a much clearer and identifiable place? PM me your mobile and I'll SMS you when we leave Maccas to give you an idea of our timing.

We will most likely stop (I.e. won't get out of our cars) just before the valley of the putty road and make a slow moving road train to buy us some clean road in the valley but that will not be a good place to join the group.

I've just had the funniest conversation with the owner of Cafe Wollombi and I can't help but share it with you all:

Owner: So what time will you guys be arriving.
Me: We're leaving at 6:30am so we should comfortably get there by 9am.

Owner: Right, should be no problem via the freeway, I guess I'll see you all at 9am then.
Me: Yes, but we're taking the Putty Road.

Owner: *Pause... Are you guys coming by bikes (motorcycles)?
Me: No, we're a car club.

Owner: *Longer pause... But that's the long way here.
Me: Yes, we're a car club and we like to drive.

Owner: *Another pause... Ok, well, give me a call if you guys are running late.
Me: Don't worry, we've been up that road many times and it usually takes us only 2 hours to get to Wollombi.

Owner: *A very long pause... Right... Ok. See you later

I feel like telling her that not everyone drives a caravan up the Putty...

Lets hope we don't get caught behind a group of grey nomads in their campervans or barges thru the bends that would be a slow trip. lol

Hi Rob, don't nock the grey nomads, salt of the earth. Over here in the US their called Snow Birds, all those from Canada and the northern states head south in their huge motorhomes and 5th wheelers for the winter, fascinating.
