How hard to make an SE with 174 rwkw, BD roll bar, coilovers, upgraded engine mounts, Sparco and harness merely comply with the regs? And if that can be done, just how uncompetitive would it be, and how embarrassing for the driver (me)?

You must use standard style engine mounts to 2f spec. Also you are limited to boost and must use standard inlet and outlet manifold, Internals are free, I think, But I could be wrong.

In a NA6-8 you can't even use a high port motor or 6 speed, set up. But it, seems to be in motor sport it's only cheating if you get caught

Standard rubber engine mounts only lasted one track day before splitting, so that's a shame.

Engine internals and manifolds are stock. But there's a bigger exhaust, better flowing intake, larger injectors and a piggy back ECU. Does this rule the car out?
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Only if you have half a clue how to drive it.

It's not about how well I can or can't drive

Don't make the mistake of spending big just because it buys you a fast car. This is motorsport...there are ALWAYS other competitors that are faster and richer than you. Some of them faster in cheaper and lower spec cars!!
Yes I under stand the can't buy talent, but you can buy horse power and sometimes that is enough

The purchase price is only half the game. Figure out tyre availability and costs, how quickly it eats it brakes up and how much fuel it will use. A friend of mine races a Monaro with 450RWHP and that will easily do $300 in fuel over a weekend.
Yes fair point, a Vett use GM parts, so a lot of Holden parts will fit. I'm happy to spend $2500-$3500 a weekend on fuel, tires and pads

Do your research, build some experience and learn some race craft and then look at the really quick stuff.[/quote]
Yes 100% I'm quite happy been slow in a slow car than, slow in a fast car, but with the motor sport I've done so far, I've gone o.k.(i'm never going to light the world on fire). But I'm talking about, is the MX5 out gunned now. It use to be quite a good option, but now It seems there is no chance of running at the front end with out spending big. I know for a fact a front running MX5 2F you are looking at 80k, I'm sure now there is a better options. Happy to be shown that I'm wrong. My goal would be to run at Bathurst in a 2f car and Vett seems like the right option.
Thanks for the input.

My mx5 mantra is

"See no Evo, Hear no Evo, Fear no Evo."

Works for me on the local touge.

Haha!

It's always funny when an evo driver asks if your car is turbo. No denying though, they're are bloody quick.

We are talking about racing in categories like prod sports, mra etc
There is/was one for sale for 25k which was always a top 3 runner at mra.

Is this it?

All the 4 wheel drive cars are bloody quick and seems to be the way to go in production racing. I watched the 6 hour up here in Brisbane and all the evos where well up the front. Even a new M1 couldn't keep up after 20 or so laps.

I have just sold my evo tommi mak edition which was set up for motorsport and am happy to be building an mx-5 for racing.
Main motivator is price and that parts and panels for Mx-5 will be cheaper in the long run.
I must say they are amazing cars, but you can't just be a bad driver and expect to turn out a cracking lap time.

They steer well, and feel very good to drive.
You are also able to put the power down before you have even hit the apex giving a great slingshot out of the corners.
They are heavy, but still go around corners well.

Come to think of it, I want it back........

But hey nc mx'5 simple rear drive ( not light enough though!)
Find some comparable cars to race with and away you go
