Nakamichi HU any chop ?

I'm looking at head units and came across the 'new' Nakamichi range , back in the olden days Hakamich was gold and up there with the best of the best , now ??

Appart from the obviously fiddly buttons has anyone used a Nakamichi HU recerntly and how did it go ?

They were good at making tape decks, not sure about much else...

I had a Nakamichi AV-10 HT receiver about 10 years ago and it was OK, I replaced it with a Yamaha RX-V2600, the Yam was in every way superior!

I had heard of build quality issues but I went ahead anyway, mostly because I loved its looks but also because the sound quality was meant to be good. I can confirm the rumours! My CD changer only works when the cabin of the car has gotten very hot, and the LCD is slowly sagging. My stereo sounds and looks great, however.

I would proceed with caution. Maybe see if you can get someone more local to buy it from in case you need to do warranty returns.

Hi Inksta changer only works in hot cabin, damn, that sounds just the thing for my old NA6 , I've been looking at the new range rather than the traditional , Repco is the local agent for them I'll shuffle in and see what kind of deal may be had , saggy LCD sounds iffy , did you get yours via Fleebay ?

Yep, got it off eBay. The guy offered to replace it but it was all a bit shady so I stuck with my mostly functional unit

Get Dann involved in this.
Nakamichi did make beautiful home HI-FI (tape decks, and amazing amps that were so heavy) in the 80's but so did Sansui, Marantz,Teac etc. I am a long way removed from car audio now but as for home I have enjoyed NAD (early) and currently I am listening through high end Onkyo gear saddled up with some hand crafted speakers from Sydney, in the car it is the 200 watt Bose stuff that came with the NC2 PRHT. Listen and you will find, start with female vocalists and then move through the range but do not forget that a car is a car is a car as oppossed to a living room or an audio showroom for that matter.
