HAHA yeah there is always that.

Well i just removed the Roll cage and Sparco seat.
Going to get a pink slip next week so i have a few things to tidy up.
Whacked a old hardtop on and WOW, I do really enjoy a hardtop on a MX5.
It was quite easy to remove the cage though.
I also think i could trim a few pieces on the car to make it even easier.
The plan was to be able to put the cage in for Serious track days.
I would like to be able to use a race seat and harness for motorkhana etc without the roll cage.
So might look at getting a harness bar made that bolts between the seatbelt towers.

Re: DWEEZLE'S BACK!!
For motorkhanas you're NOT going to want a harness.
Lap sash is enough, and a lot of guys only use lap belts.
Any test with reversing and a harness will mean you can't turn to have a good enough view to reverse accurately.

Re: DWEEZLE'S BACK!!
Well, As most of you prob know, the car is up For Sale
I work in the TV industry and have gone freelance which means i will be travelling a fair bit.
I also live in a Apartment complex with very strict Parking rules in place now so garage space is very limited.
Money being a small issue is also at play.
So i listed the car For Sale and all of the parts for what was going to be a very cool build.
Everything is pretty much sold, and sold quickly which was nice.
Just need the actual car gone now!
I even sold the Tall Half Cage to a bloke in QLD who will be using it next year which is good.
Anyone mind if i still hang around?
haha
I am looking to get myself a car to compete in NSW Hillclimb Champs and the occasional Supersprint next year.
This car will also need to be able to perform daily duties, carry track wheels and tools and boot space is required.
And yeah, needs to cost under 10 Grand.
I have been thinking about looking for a decent nick RenaultSport Clio 172/182.
Something like this.

Yeah Yeah, FWD blah blah blah..
I believe a few on here have owned these before?
Anyone willing to give me an opinion on them??
The specs sound perfect for what i require-
*Near enough 1000kg
*125kw
*200nm
*Hatch Back Luggage space
*Between $6-8K.
The Build quality is pretty shoddy i believe, but that will not bother me too much.
Would love to hear opinions.

Re: DWEEZLE'S BACK!!
One of my best mates bought a 172 a few months back. About 80k on the clock, pretty good condition all around (excluding the Bob Jane tyres) and only $6k. Great little car and I was cross shopping the MX5 and Clio when I bought my 5 so I could just as easily have been in a 182. Weight is near as makes no difference the same as an NB with slightly more power. My only negative is the driving position is a bit funny (sitting high) so I'd look at swapping the seat for a bucket, whether fixed back or reclining.
Build quality has its reputation, but look after it right and service it properly and it shouldn't give you too many troubles.

Electrics would be the worst part of owning a Renault or Peugeot - having owned some myself, this was the one major area that pissed me off regularly... they can't bloody make the electrics work reliably!!
Good car though.

Re: DWEEZLE'S BACK!!
What about an Integra Type R? Quick, huge boot, seats 4 reasonably comfortably, big community with reasonably priced parts...and lots of mod potential!
And you should be able to get one for $10K

Or....if you absolutely, positively HAVE to go fwd - a civic, and drop the 2.4 from the accord into it

Re: DWEEZLE'S BACK!!
Well...$12K is the asking price. What it actually sells for is a different issue!
The DC5s are dropping in price so that's applying downward pressure on the DC2R prices. Mine was advertised for $13K after a price drop and I got it for $11K, bog standard. That said, I've resprayed the car.
Be patient and you'll find one.
As for getting an EG and dropping in a K24, personally, unless you are doing it as a project car, the cost is very high. That swap, if done by a shop is about $10K as there is quite a bit of additional work / parts involved.
Look on OzHonda and ClubITR. I'll keep an eye out for you as well.

Re: DWEEZLE'S BACK!!
Yeah you take an EG civic and a K24 from an accord or a CRV and a K20 head and make 200whp.
The Clio. so seem popular in the hill climbing crowd.

Apu - totally lost me there buddy. They are the Civic for Accord swaps? Don't have any personal experience, but have seen one racing and it is a rocket.
Yup, like Dann said. That'll give you ~150kW at the wheels with a stock engine and Hondata. Some guys get a bit more than that.
The EG Civic the BYP guys drag race ran 11sec (fastest was 10.98) and with a built engine, just run in, they've dropped into the 10s. The EG they ran at WTAC does 1:03 around Wakefield - no doubt a stripped out car, but a streetable version would only be a couple of seconds behind.
To give you an idea, a 1.6L EG Civic, was running ~1:13 at Honda Nationals...and that was the most base model Civic Breeze with a 1.6L transplant. They are a cheap, fun, spacious car.
