What is this "outlet"?

Postby travis » Tue Dec 18, 2012 6:33 pm

I noticed what appears to be water leaking from the bottom of my brother's NA6. See pic below. This "outlet" appears to be some kind of relief and water was seen slowly dripping out of here after a period of driving - does anyone know what this is?

Shown below, the outlet is situated between the exhaust and gearbox.

Thanks.

Pretty sure its a drain from the AC Box under the dash.

Yep, that sounds logical to me, considering the location and today's heat. So is this normal?

(sorry for the noob questions)

Yep, perfectly normal to drip water. It's the drain tube from the A/C evaporator, which during normal use and depending on humidity, can build up quite a bit of condensation. The drain gives it somewhere to go. If they block, and they do occasionally, you'll find yourself with a wet passenger footwell.

They can also come off at the connection under the dash.

On a particularly hot day many years ago, my the drain tube detached under the dash on my car, ended up with about 2cm of water sloshing around the passenger footwell!
