Clutch master stuffed??

Postby CQYD » Tue Dec 18, 2012 7:37 pm

Need your help guys, so the clutch won't disengage, tried bleeding air out but that didn't fix it. There is clutch pressure but it doesn't hold the pressure. Went under the car, I can see the slave push the clutch ok, but with the pedal pushed
down I can see the slave slowly release. I'm thinking it's the clutch master as I've replaced the slave about 6 months ago.

Also the reservoir is full and I can't see any leaks.

Thanks for any help you can give.

check your clutch pedal, it should be dripping with brake fluid if your clutch master is gone. Swapping it out is a easy job

Internal leak in the master or slave could be the problem.

Occasionally slave cylinders that are sold new, but are old stock & lesser quality do fail. Alternatively, perhaps you bought it a while before it was installed about 6 months ago.

Dammit, so is there no way to tell if it's either the master or slave?

The slave was genuine mazda, so I would hope it will last more the 6 months.

Did you squeeze the rubber boot where the pushrod comes out to see if it leaks?

As koop21 said, look for leaking fluid on the clutch pedal push rod.

Keep looking. Will the system hold pressure and allow clutch engagement/disengagement if you "pump" the clutch pedal?

Thanks for the tips, I'll be going over the car again after work.

pumping the clutch pedal produces some pressure but not enough to disengage the clutch. then after a few more pumps the pedal goes straight to the floor. I feels like once it reaches a certain pressure point it just craps itself an releases.

I was driving along fine, then stopped at a intersection and the clutch was played up. This make me think a part or hose has just suddently failed.

It wouldn't just be water in the system would it?

I doubt it's water unless the car was submerged. However, you could have a hose that's stuffed and acting like a balloon. If the hydraulics won't work and there is no loss of fluid or visible leak, then you have a ballooning hose or an internal system leak where the fluid is bypassing the cup(s) but not leaking out of either the master or slave.
