Is the mx5 out gunned
I all,
I will be running in PSCRAQ next year.
Looking around at the cars you can run. While the NA NB mx5 seems a great little choice for new driver like myself. My car has about 10-12k all up. I know where I'll be running next year. Like a porn star, banging away at the rear.
To make the car turn in some good lap time the out lay is quite steep.
Example to make a mx5 run a sub sixty in 2F form you would be looking at a out lay of 60-80k plus a very good driver.
The other option would be to go to the states pick up a late model Vett 30-35k ship back and fees 5-7k all done 35-40 k. Plus GM running gear.
To be honest if I could fit in a lotus, that would be another option from the UK 15-20k track ready plus shipping. Runs a toyota motor.
Or though a little long in the tooth FD Rx7.
The Nissan stable....
Seems to be for bang for buck maybe the mx5 is not a such a good option now?
Thoughts?

Re: Is the mx5 out gunned
Yes and always will be!!!
If ya gunna run up front forget 2F and build a 2B car.
CT's old car is a prime example of what can be achieved, but money and lots of time in development is required.
Or buy a front running car, say a nice 997 gt3
But remember despite what some tossers think, racing for fun IS ok, and just because we're not qualifying or racing in the top 50% of the field doesn't mean we're not trying,
it means we are there to have fun or so I thought!!!!
So don't over think it go and have fun and ƒü¢k the "professional" still can't believe he said that!!!!!

Re: Is the mx5 out gunned
60-80 sounds like a lot of brass. Is that sub 60 at qr or lakeside?
I hope to be joining you guys as a newcomer in my nc and I hope to have my car track side for 18-20k. Getting cage put in over the x mas break
2f car to start out. As lOng as I can find a core group of guys to race closely with I could care less about winning. ( I say that now!!)
Cheap reliable car will keep you smiling, and not blowing highly strung things up.
What is your previous racingexperience?
Hope to see you out there!

Both Clubman and Lakeside.
NC seems like a pretty good choice. But one of the NC I've run with has had a lot of work and won't fit into 2a or 2b because of the Mazda six motor runs 102s at Clubman, A lot of money in the car as well. He is quite a good driver/ nice bloke, who has raced with PSCRAC.
My experience. Not a lot, track days couple of hill climbs only.

Yup, that does sound like a lot of money.
How hard to make an SE with 174 rwkw, BD roll bar, coilovers, ugraded engine mounts, Sparco and harness merely comply with the regs? And if that can be done, just how uncompetitive would it be, and how embarrassing for the driver (me)?

UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

You must use standard style engine mounts to 2f spec. Also you are limited to boost and must use standard inlet and outlet manifold, Internals are free, I think, But I could be wrong.
In a NA6-8 you can't even use a high port motor or 6 speed, set up. But it, seems to be in motor sport it's only cheating if you get caught

There's a front running, championship winning 2B MX5 for sale in SE QLD at the moment for $35k... Why not just buy that?!
Pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever.

I.M.O. 35k is way over priced. As stated you can get a vett for the same price and run rings around it.

Yes Terry well said,
I'm just thinking a couple of years down the track. You have to be smart about how you spend your money.
I'm looking forward to running next year, the PSCRAC guys seem like really nice people, so I'm keen to go. Feel better now knowing that a vett is not going to run over the top of me, as his panels are to expensive to replace.

2f also restricts the size of the bore and stroke as well as those mentioned by toppertee.

Only if you have half a clue how to drive it.
Don't make the mistake of spending big just because it buys you a fast car. This is motorsport...there are ALWAYS other competitors that are faster and richer than you. Some of them faster in cheaper and lower spec cars!!
The purchase price is only half the game. Figure out tyre availability and costs, how quickly it eats it brakes up and how much fuel it will use. A friend of mine races a Monaro with 450RWHP and that will easily do $300 in fuel over a weekend.
Do your research, build some experience and learn some race craft and then look at the really quick stuff.
