NB engine bay heat?
Hi,
So i recently picked up a '01 model & have noticed the engine bay temps seem quite high.
The actual gauge on the dash only his maximum Halfway.
im very new to mx5's & am wondering if this is common on the NB models or is my car being inconsiderate?

Re: NB engine bay heat?
What is the gauge reading?
The heat should be regulated by a thermostat.
Is it fluctuating or just running high?

Engine BAY temps are irrelevent.
Engine coolant temps are.

So the coolant temp guage says its hot as is the top hose?
If you touch the hose with a wet hand it should take more than a couple of seconds to evaporate.

Well it should be around 90 deg and that would be hot as hell when touched. Nothing's wrong with that yeah!?

I just popped.the cap off and saw bubbles so the air in the system could be causing it, will flush and update.

Im going to ignore that.
No it is not normal for all cars to overheat,
If its overheating something doing its job correctly

Hang on. You said the gauge is at normal op temp but you "think" it's overheating cause it feels hot.... !? Nobody with any clue in mechanics of engines uses the "it's hot to touch method" to diagnose cooling issues.

Re: NB engine bay heat?
get yourself one of those infrared temp sensors and start shooting everything in your engine bay. my water pump housing is 90 and the top of my radiator is 65ish. i remember the turbo manifold was 400. the inside of my coal briquette boiler is 900

Re: NB engine bay heat?
you failed to say the car is overheating in the first post. you just said it was hot. all engine bays are hot. hence my comment.narita wrote:project.r.racing wrote:and new to mechanics also? normal for 100% of cars.narita wrote:im very new to mx5's & am wondering if this is common on the NB models or is my car being inconsiderate?

Re: NB engine bay heat?
Like I said, sounds normal. People are also saying the same. How hard is that to accept? If you can't take advice, please do not ask for advice.
Next thing you will say it runs cooler after a coolant change (and you haven't warmed up the car yet.......).
