Since there are only 50 or so Malibu Golds around, I thought it would be interesting to see how many are either on the forum or known to forum members. So here is your chance to describe your car and connect with other Malibu owners.

Re: MALIBU GOLD REGISTER
My Malibu was not well looked after when I got it, and had been side swiped, badly hail
damaged, and had a racing beat nose fitted to cover up accident damage to the front bumper where the previous owner had shunted someone. I got the body fixed, but it is not immaculate by any means, and still has some minor scars. It also has a spoiler on the boot.
It has done about 245,000ks, and has been fairly heavily modified with Brown Davis bar, flyin miata butterfly braces, whiteline adjustable sway bars, adjustable konis and king coils,Willwood brakes, a warmed year 2000 NB engine, gearbox, full exhaust, custom intake and mania cai, and possibly a head job on the BP4W head that was on the engine... (We didn't suspect that until the dyno results showed better than expected power). A Torsen 4.1 was fitted because on the very day I bought it, the viscous 1.6 lsd blew a pinion!
FACTORY SUPPLIED OPTIONS:This Malibu had the black leather seats with speakers, black trim, hardtop with demister, rear mudflaps, and (obviously, since it is a Malibu) the remote boot release. It as also supplied new with the viscous 4.3 limited slip diff.So it was a well optioned car.It was sold new by West End Mazda at Ryde, but I didn't get any books with it.I still have a set of pristine daisy wheels ( which won't fit over the brakes), the hardtop etc, so is still "complete". I have kept the original brakes, suspension components, engine, gearbox and (rebuilt) viscous diff , so it can be restored to original condition a couple of weekends, or weeks....if I ever feel the need to get it back to original.Only the original stereo has disappeared .

Re: MALIBU GOLD REGISTER
My Malibu came to me in a sorry state also. Flat tyres and battery, dents in every panel, 1/4in layer of burger and coke lining the interior and smashed indicator and side mirror. Underneath the manky floor mats and seat covers it was quite well preserved and mechanically it seems good for its 195,000 kms.
It was a demo at Wood bros Mazda and after a few changes of ownership belonged to my mother in law and later my brother in law.
It has a black interior, LSD, double din CD/radio/cassette, power windows but no p/s or a/c.
I had planned on gutting it and turning it into a track pig, but now I know a little more about it I won't do any non reversible mods.

55 originally release to be exact but I'm sure the numbers are way down on the now.
There are a number of members on this site who have or have had Malibu Golds. Maybe do a search and then email them to post. There are at least 3 in the NSW Club (including one that races regularly) who don't frequent this site.

Re: MALIBU GOLD REGISTER
I have had mine for a bit over 2 years, it has 126klms showing on it & is in pretty good shape. It has a good history with only a few years that I don't know its ownership for. I have had 3 changes of wheels, swapped the softtop for an NB softtop, changed the suspension & a few other little bits & pieces.I want to do a full exhaust upgrade & eventually a re-spray.It came from the factory with no a/c or p/steering. You can check out my garage thread if you want to see more about it I think if you search for Woodstock you will find it.

Re: MALIBU GOLD REGISTER
I've had my Mailbu for thirteen years now. Bought it in Sydney for 19 G's and 55 on the clock. That was just before the eunos killed the market. Anyway have enjoyed every minute of ownership and also sunk thousands into it! Will update my garage thread soon as have been doing more mods (over 60 now) so it will never be going back to standard with things like NB softop, suspension mods P/S. Also have a stock NA so when I'm feeling ready for a sedate drive I take it for a run. Has 112000 on it now.
NB SE, NA 1.8.

SPOTTED IN THE LAST WEEK
1. a Malibu often parks on New Line Rd near Cherrybrook Public School.Last week when I was on my way to Mania, I saw the driver, a 30 something (?) blonde woman. Does anyone know this car?
2. the very next day, I saw a nice Malibu parked near Sutherland Railway Station. I left my name, number etc under the windscreen wiper but they didnt call. Anyone know of one in the Shire (apart from mine) .I have not seen this one before or since.
3. There are presently 3 Malibus for sale. One at Gawler in Adelaide, $5,300 looks good, one at Liverpool on Gumtree for $around $7500, and another one in Brisbane on Gumtree for $9,900 with 180,000 k's.

Great thread Keith - over the years reckon I've identified 50% or so of the original 186 Clubmans through the forum & ads.

Re: MALIBU GOLD REGISTER
Hey there,
I have joined the ranks of Malibu ownership. Fair condition, optioned with leather seats, A/C, front mud flaps & hardtop (which I unfortunately did not get when I purchased the car).
She needs a bit of TLC, but bit by bit she I'm restoring her full glory. Can't wait to run into the 1x other Malibu that I know is hiding in SA somewhere. Maybe there are others?
