Power mirrors on NA

Since I am sooooo good at asking stupid questions . Is it possible to retrofit power mirrors to an NA6? I am hesitant to do this, as I initially did not want to modify the car too much, but I am rapidly getting the "improvement" bug. I would not normally care about power mirrors, but it is a pain in the rear when my wife has jumped in the car and has to change the mirrors, as she 5"1' and I am a foot taller. I would not want to do it, only to find it looks horrible because of a poorly matched mirror.

My best option is probably just to ensure she never drives it .

It would look fine if you used NA8 power mirrors, but I'm not sure the attachment to the door is the same, as the mirror stem is different to the NA6, which could mean the base attaches differently. It would also entail a reasonable amount of work that you would need to research to ensure it could work. Could be more trouble than it's worth, especially if there's an alternative.

Yes, you are right that it would be a lot of work... I figured the only way was if someone had already engineered an after-market kit.....

Not that I've heard of, but almost anything's possible State-side, where there's a customer-base to support this kind of thing.

I feel your pain.
I wouldn't buy the first model 5 just because of that reason, however, when the 1.8 came out with electric mirrors, I was already in the queue and bought a Clubman.

I can't see why a pair of NA8 mirrors wouldn't fit on a an early NA6, but if worse comes to worse, you could always buy a pair of complete doors with mirrors off an NA8 and fit them.
Mind you, the only mirror that REALLY needs to be electric is the passenger side one (as the driver's mirror is easy to adjust from the driver's seat), so maybe you could just pick up a wrecked passenger door with mirror attached and voila, your problems are solved.
You may not need the whole door, but at least you could take the mirror off and then re-sell what's left of the door.

Would be far easier if my wife bought herself an MX-5, so I don't have to share . Of course, she could buy me an NC and she would never have to adjust the mirrors in the NA!

I will see if I can find some wiring information on the mirrors. I would need to find the mirrors and the controls etc. Bit of a pain, but.....

Hi All, I have fitted the NA8 power mirrors to my NA6, it is a very simple procedure, however here are the gotchas.

The stem on the power mirrors is significantly larger than the hole in the door, my solution was to drill the door, and dremel tool to fit. I finished with some nail varnish to prevent rust.

Secondly the original screws will not be long enough to go through the power mirrors, so you will need to get these from a wrecker.

I am yet to hook them up to the electrics, but I will take it to an auto electrician for that job....

Recently fitted NA8 mirrors to my NA6 and well worth the effort.

Instead of drilling out my doors, I filed off the locator on the mirrors with an el cheapo version dremel tool, then resprayed the mirrors to match my car. I just got longer bolts to suit at Bunnings.

I wired mine, wasn't too difficult.
