Club sprinter/ Daily cruiser harness

Hi,
Wondering what people are running in the way of harnesses for the occasional track day runners. Are 4 points up to the job or are 6 points needed? I was thinking a 3 inch 4 point would probably do with mounting plates on the floor pan. Any opinions ?????

Just put a Sparco Sprint and 6 point harness in mine. The seat is fine for daily use and gives a much more direct connection to everything the car is doing as well as stopping me falling around on the original leather seat. The seat and harness together are even better including on the road.

But fastening the harness every time I got in was way too time consuming. Fortunately my seat runners were specially adapted not only to be the rear floor mounts for the harnesses but also to allow the original seat belt holder to be fitted. I have now refitted the holder so I can use the standard belt on the road and the harness on the track. This is a great compromise for me. You may be happy using the harness on the road.

Sabelt four point 3" harness in my NA6. I only use it at track days and remove it for everyday use. Harnesses are usually not street legal. Many would say that a six point is vital to avoid submarining, but I feel that's a very low risk scenario in a road car which has an upright seating position.

Sabelt 3" 6 point in mine. As Guran said, I don't think it's legal to use a harness on the roads but it is a illegal not to wear your original 3 point belt. You might get away with putting the belt on over the harness but in any case the harness is a pain for road use unless you're doing long distances.

I much prefer the 6 point for track work. The tension from the crotch straps let you pull down the shoulder straps much tighter than you can with a 4 point to really lock yourself into the seat.

I think 6 pt is best for track, and you can get mounting sleeves that allow you to have both the 6 pt harness and the 3 pt in the car at the same time so you can wear the 3 pt on the road

Some 4 point harnesses are legal for road use such as the RPM 2" 4PT HARNESS from Race Revoultions

Without a proper race seat, any 4 or 6 point harness can be a pain.

Have a look at the CG Lock as an option

I find it ideal for club trips and spirited drives as it locks the hips in place and allows upper body movement.
There is a generic fit version and one specific for the MX5 / Mazda seatbelt

Thanks for the pointers. I've decided to go the 4 point, 3 inch route. I'm not to fussed about it being road legal as its really only track days that I'm concerned about.

I've tracked down a set of rails and am going to mount my old race seat to this (hopefully it fits, it's a Monaco by Sparco I think) and just switch it in for sprint days.

I'm too slow as it is on motorkhanas Bob so I'll stick to the stock seatbelt for those ;)

Are 3in more comfortable than 2in? (4point)
I'd like a 3inch 4point legal for road use, but it seems only 2inch is legal?

More votes for the 6 point. Is both safer and easier to adjust.

You don't want a harness for motorkhanas as you'll need to move around more to see where you're going.

Totally agree.
I found a 4 point harness also restrict the use of the handbrake.
You could get away with only using the lap part of the belt for Motorkhana but that is a waste of effort.
Also a race seat offers similar restrictions.

For track work I would only recommend a 5/6 point harness with a race seat.
