Nice. Very impressive. If you scout around the other forums you can often read about people saying that the miata has one of the best chassis in the business. Of course the only problem with the miata is the slightly feminine image which fades away once you whack on a roll bar....and that's about it. The roll bar and my sparco seats give people the impression that I track even when I don't...ha..ha..so I am happy not to have to shell out 50k for an Elise second hand, or a boxster or the upcoming Toyota ft86 because my mx5 can do everything and bring more smiles to my face.
Which is why I am willing to mod the car to my liking because base cost is much much lower. I am very keen to get my cams, heads and ecu done by wazza so I'll keep everyone up to date.

I was going to say "you should", but it depends. I wouldn't take my daily driver out on most tracks (Wakefield is an exception as it is incredibly safe). Either way, go and try a motorkhana. That is a fantastic way to spend a day. Heaps of fun, and it's the cheapest and safest form of motorsport out there.

So anything over 9.00mm lift is a waste on a BP-05 head, but aren't the ports bigger on NB heads? So it should allow a little more lift without the loses compared to a NA8 head?
My 97 Astina head (BP-05) has solid lifters and 8.9916mm lift on the intake cam (base circle is 36mm) from the factory, just as a reference. I'm toying with Toda cams now, as they offer multiple durations from 256d up to 304d with the factory 36mm base circle and they have 9.0mm of lift. Should swap straight in without too much fuss.

Just because the port is bigger doesn't mean it flows more air.......
I have seen the Toda grinds, but I beleive they are substancially more expensive than what we're talking here.
I'd be carefull using 300d cams with only 9.0mm lift. Thats alot of timing for not much lift, I'd be curoius to see what that would do to the power curve, my guess is it would be doughy down low, and not enough lift to make it any good up top.

i was just referencing them. personally if i was looking at massive 300d+ cams, i'd be doing it right and getting a base circle of 33mm and running 10.0mm+ lift with it.
but for someone chasing minimal power gains and not building a complete screamer, then 256x9.0 cams might just fit the bill. if you are changing the end, then might as well go the bigguns though.

Look for some pointers with cams for an NB8B?
I have read a number of threads where the idea is dismissed pretty quickly, is this just because so few people have heard about it being done it is being assumed it can not be done?
Surely it is possible to use drop in cams and an aftermarket ecu without the variable cam timing?

companies offer not-vvt and vvt camshafts. just look at their websites. maruha for example.
