OK, will try to answer all questions here:

I know that it won't pull out all the oil - I extracted just under 4L - but the reason I got this is that I have 4 cars to deal with.

I'll send each of the cars to the mechanic for a proper service, but for the intermediate change, I figured this would be better than not doing it.

Using the siphon, I can set it up, pump it and leave it to siphon the oil out whilst I go fiddle with something else. Very time efficient.

As for the gunk, I figured that if I used the car (not just warm it up) most of the gunk would be suspended in the oil anyway. So I might leave a couple of hundred ml of dirty oil behind...but again...better than not doing it.

So...anyone know where I can get some really tough heat shrink?

You cant just use some thin silicone hose? You might be able to cut it long enough to get to the bottom and get that last drop out?

That's what I initially thought but there's a kink that you need to get past and I doubt you can do that with a silicone hose.

You don't remember how many beers we had, do you?

Fit one coilover, stop for beer. Fit another coilover, have beer and order pizza. Fit another coilover, stop for another beer. Fit last coilover, decide that we shouldn't have any more beers, so just tidy up. Sat back and admired our work...and decide to have another beer.

Is the section you put into the dipstick different to the rest of the tubing? Can you reverse the tubing or cut a section off (and still reach down the dippy tube)?

Yup, the section that goes down the dipstick is different. It's flexible metal tube with a vinyl casing, which is then attached to a clear tube.

Cutting the exposed part will be a last resort...just in case it's not long enough to reach the bottom of the sump.

Long time no update!

So I sent Apu to Mania to de-power the steering...a bit heavier than I thought, but not as heavy as just having the belt removed.

I also had the aircon removed. I've only used it on a couple of days in the past two summers, and I don't drive Apu when the temps will exceed ~25degC (call me soft!). Sometime this winter when I get my garage back, I'll start removing all the sound deadening crap I stuck on a couple of years ago.

I also swapped these puppies in!

Do you know what the weight saving was for each of those items?

Not a whole lot - probably only a couple of kilos in total (both seats). The seats are light, the rails weigh a lot and both seats have the Bride brackets and sliding rails.

Removing the aircon made a bigger difference!
