Re: The journey to Apu
I believe the "greasy stuff" stick to the can and the remaining air goes back to the engine. My car is no turbo, but that catch can is rather cheap. Sort of like adding cosmetic treatment to the car.

No problems. I added the steel wool just to increase the surface area for the oily vapor to stick to. And I agree, its a cheap way to help prevent the octane levels from falling.

Re: The journey to Apu
After the last track day, I finally got off my behind to do something about the annoying tie-down points in the front of the car. The poorly painted silver "baby teeth" had been annoying me for a while, and quite a while back I decided I wanted to use a tow-strap instead of a tow-hook.
So I got a bunch of these! I just need to figure where/how I'm going to mount the rear strap as I only want to cut a horizontal slot in the rear bumper.
One of the annoying tie-down points
Quite a nuisance to do this. I had to remove the undertray, which turned out to be quite a good opportunity to clean the underside of the engine. Anyway, here it is fitted, but drooping like an old man.
I cut a strip of neoprene and screwed it into the underside of the bumper. This will keep it reasonably tidy, and will allow the strap to slip out easily should it ever need to be used. And if the user forgets to slip it out, the neoprene will just snap off...stole this idea from my sailing days (spinnaker reference)
So here it is completed, and I painted the left side tie-down black.

Just to add to this - I had the bonnet up and engine running, you can actually see quite a bit of oil vapour venting.

Apu do you really think it is oil vapour and not water vapour?
I would be worried if you could see oil vapour at idle.

You could be right about the "visible" vapour part (didn't think about water vapour) but there is no mistaking the smell of oil.

Hey Apu
I am about to mount tow straps like yours, but am simply going to attach to the existing hooks / baby teeth.

It'll stick out too far! It's not difficult to remove the baby teeth, just need to get under the car and do have flexible hands! And arms.

I am not too worried about aesthetics, so doesn't worry me. Easy enough to attach to the current eyelets. But I do like the straps, more pedestrian friendly while mine is still registered.

Re: The journey to Apu
So what did I get up to on the weekend? Bought one of these!
Stick a little probey-tubey thingy down the dipsticky-majiggy
Pump it about 15-20 times, and watch the oil flow out
The only thing is that when I pulled the flexi-tube out, I must have snagged it somewhere and tore the sleeve. Thankfully, it all came out, but that's obviously rendered the tube useless.
So I need to find some tough heat-shrink that I can use to seal the tube again. Any ideas where I can get that? I don't think regular heat shrink will be tough enough.

Speaking of garages...see how the wealthy apartment dwellers in Singapore park their Aventadors!

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the purpose of siphoning oil out rather than using the drain plug?

No jacking the car! Still not sure if all the 'gunk' would be removed this way.

It's so you don't have to crawl around under the car to drain the oil. Get the engine warm, then let it sit for 10 minutes so the warm and runny oil all drains to the bottom and then suck it out.
Apu...Did you measure how much oil you pulled out? I always wondered if these would get as much out as removing the sump plug and letting the car sit for 10 minutes?
