Battery Recommendations

Postby Caffeine » Mon Nov 26, 2012 9:31 am

So this morning, after 11 years and 1 week, the original battery in my NB8B finally appears to have given up.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a replacement?

I see Mania have a couple of different options. Not really interested in the weight savings of the odyssey battery, but if there are other significant benefits I may consider it.

Caff, we covered a range of options & prices here:

Personally reckon the FullRiver AGM at $119.55 plus $10.20 shipping, & a 2.5kg weight saving is pretty good.

Battery spent 24 hours on charge and still didn't have enough grunt to start the car this morning, looks like one of those fullriver batteries is in my future :)

Replaced Panasonic in my NA8 this year after it was replaced in 2000. Similarly tried trickle recharging for about 24 hours, but couldn't resurrect it.

Picking up a fullriver HX20 from batteries direct in Peakhurst this afternoon, $123 + $15 for the screw in terminals. Not too shabby!

Installed, I don't think the car has ever started that easily! :D

The battery is tiny in comparison to the OEM one...

I'll definitely have to re-visit the mounting for this battery, the standard clamp isn't holding it in securely and the battery is moving around a fair bit. It's already scratched up a bit on top where the clamp attaches, just from my 35km commute to work.

Could you let us know what you did to clamp it securely? I just ordered one of the Fullriver battery's and would like ideas on what needs to be done.

I cut out a 'U' shaped piece of wood, with inside dimensions to hold the new battery and outside dimensions equivalent to the original battery, this holds the battery securely at the bottom in the battery tray.

I then stuck a piece of adhesive backed foam to the top of the battery in the middle, on which the clamp presses to secure the battery in place at the top

Seems to have stayed in place quite well.

and the OEM only lasted 11 years. If you plan to sell the car buy a cheapy.
