Hi Guys, New owner and Track car Build

Postby Racing Logic » Fri Nov 16, 2012 10:51 am

Hi Guys,
I just bought a 89 Eunos Roadster and I will be turning it into a time attack/road car.
The GFC took away my last TA car, an Evo 7RS but now I'm back, albeit on a bit of a budget.
Im looking forward to getting my hands dirty again and driving flat out.

Cheers
Jon

Welcome aboard!
Looking forward to seeing what you do with it... What have you got in mind for the powerplant?
The Racing Logic cars were always very sharp back in the Drift Australia days. All the best with the 5!
So lets go!

Racing Logic of course. I am the online retailer for Australia.
I just put a bit on a whiteline front sway bar, if that falls through I will get a set of Eibach bars from Vivid Racing.
The car already has a front strut brace. I will probably have to replace most of the bushings.
It needs a roll bar and Im thinking a MX5 Plus tall boy will do the job, and I'm 6'2.

Anyone here use front and rear lower arm bars (braces)? I just want it stiff.

Brakes I will be upgrading to NA8 or NB, although the RX7 calipers in the for sale section look tempting but I want to keep the weight down.

So then I need to put this car on a diet. Any tips for easy weight removal? Im looking all over the net but would love to here some of your experiences.

Im pulling:
Carpets,
radio,
door pulls,
new battery,
new race seat
new wheels

Thanks again
Cheers
Jon

For now it is the stock 1.6 but after doing a Dutton Rally with a guy who had a SR20 in his MX-5 I know what Im looking to put in.
There is a company in WA that does a conversion kit for it and just need to save a bit before that.

your ancillaries will have some weight in them if you have any. power steering, aircon etc.

some people cut the bracing on the underside of the bootlid and bonnet.

remove top.

check this out for tips.

You might want to see if you can get in on the GB on AGI roll bars. He has just made a taller one and these are definitely CAMS approved. Check out the thread on them:

Air-con is a good one to pull. 17.3kg.

miata.net has a great list of gear to can, with weights.

Forget the SR20, Do a BP build. What do you want Over 350whp?

MX-5 Plus' parent company (Australian Diversified Engineering) does CAMS roll cages (4 or 6 point) in addition to the NCOP compliant roll bars you've already mentioned. The best solution will depend on your application. If it is going to be a pure Time-attack car (not for CAMS events) you can add more structural members to the roll cage to offset (and increase over standard) any loss of bending and torsional strength caused during the chassis lightening process.

Give Jason a call on 3863 5858 if you would like to meet and discuss further.

Cheers,
Danny

BTW...congrats on the purchase!

Obviously you haven't dríven a lite car with big power. I'm getting the chassis and brakes sorted first before I even begin to research power options.
