Haven't updated this for a while, although I guess that's because I haven't done much...

Interior is still in many pieces. Tablet works but isn't mounted yet.

Skid pan day this Sunday :D

Well that was fun. Only the after photos to show for it so far but the during photos should appear soon enough.

Nope. A whole bunch of single spinning fury.
Booked a private day with a few friends through Fifth Gear out at the sutton road driver training centre.

Found a nice photo where my housemate and I are both facing completely the wrong direction.

And a decent shot of Carlie in the LE

Also, motorkhana this weekend with the MG car club. You should come Greg.

Nice one Joe! 8) Looks like Sutton Road is a lot of fun. Must get out there one day.

Two separate facilities on the same road, right next door to each other. Both are good fun.

There's the Driver Training Centre which includes a skidpan, flat course, 4WD course, and a 2.5k circuit. Skidpan is fairly self explanatory; flat course is used predominantly for the ACT motorcycle L and P tests but it is also where the MG club runs their motorkhanas; I've never actually seen the 4WD bt I'm told it's next to useless; and the 2.5k I've only ever seen in use a couple of times, the Skyline Club of NSW somehow managed to run an event there recently, Toyota did a photo shoot there for the 86 launch, and the AFP use it fairly regularly.

Then there's the SDMA Hillclimb circuit next door. Roughly a 1km course.

Yeah, I've had a drive around at a driver training course. It is really really not a race-course. It's sort of made to look and drive like a public road. I think using it as a hill climb course would be certain damage a lot of cars.

Nice work Joe. How many MG's actually compete in the events organised by the MG club down there?

Heh, funny you should mention that. A friend of mine with a MGF turned up to have a look and one of the first things he said was something to the effect of “I thought this was an MG Club event?” Normally you’d get 6-8 MGs out of a total field of ~40. This one was a little quieter than normal, maybe 3 MGs out of the field of ~30.

Joe

Well done.

Do you have a full set of results for the motorkhana. If so could you please email a copy to petbro@grapevine.com.au or list results of all MX5s competing, as I am trying to report to the MX5 club on motorsport activities.

thanks

Yes please! And it would be great to see our club's motorkhana performances reported in Club Torque. Can I get a volunteer to write something for Neil, Andrew and Timothy (send to publications@mx5.com.au)? If you're super quick, there's a slim chance they might be able to squeeze it into the issue they've nearly finished.

Email's sent to both.

Ian Vickers came 5th outright in his NB.
John Thorne was in his NA6 but is listed as a member of the SDMA, not MX5 NSW.
Bradley Cecil is listed as an MX5 club member but was competing in a Mazda 3 (and now I'll have to find him at the next one).

Thanks Joe. It'll be great to get some coverage on the motorkhanas and hillclimbs that our members compete at.

Bradley is an MX-5 Club member and usually drives an Evo IX at Supersprints. He hasn't competed much over the last two years, but won Class 2D and Type 2 in 2010.

Only a few weeks late, but better now than never.

MX5 club day at Wakefield at the start of this month. Stupidly hot right from the word go but still good fun as always. Skating all over shop in the first three sessions while I was trying to get a handle on tyre pressures, then lost the tensioner and pivot bolt on the alternator. Bodged it back together with a generic bolt which was enough to get it running, drove around the pits a few times and headed for home.I made it about 10km down the road before it died again on the side of the Hume. Luckilly, dad was in a generous mood so borrowed a trailer and came and picked me up.

Achievement Unlocked! right...? Trailered home from (almost) Wakefield. Still, in the two sessions I did get in I had quite a few laps in the 14's and one that was within a 10th of my PB. Given the conditions, I was pretty happy.

Picked up the replacement bolts from Carco this week then headed for my parents place today to fix. All smiles, all easy. The car is now back in my own garage.

Big plans for the break are to change all the fluids, strip some more from the interior and maybe even lose the air conditioning.
