Three of the Rarest MX5s on the Planet(?)

Postby MX5-SP » Sat Nov 10, 2012 12:19 am

Spotted deep in the depths of South East Queensland... possibly the three rarest "factory delivered" MX5s on the planet. Three of only 100 SPs ever built. Featuring the ONE and ONLY Crystal Blue SP ("The Unicorn") and the ONLY TWO White SPs ("Snow White" & the yet to be officially nick-named, but rumoured likely to be "Foo Foo Dust"). All together again, posing - as SP owners tend to do with these superbly quick versions of shapely NB8B.

As can be seen from the pix... each owner has made a few "improvements" on top of the stock 130KWs+ pocket rockets. What's not shown are the LSDs; upgraded Suspension & Brakes; T-Piece mods; instrument clusters; Anti-Sway Bars; Sooty Exhausts; etc. Note the different choice of tyres; roll bars; roof options; and other cosmetic differences.

Allan Horsely: If you're out there mate - enjoying your retirement - THANKS a MILLION! These SPs are running just great!

I hope you remembered there was a drain there when you drove that baby off the grass

Lookin' good! I have a feeling I spotted the Unicorn the other day, super impressive machine - and the blue is super sexy!

I hope one day I'll get the chance to meet these machines in person :D

They certainly are a pack animal - and seem defenseless when on their own, unlike the more robust 'SE' which is more plentifull and thrives on independant adventures and deters agressors with vigor. :P

I adore the colour of that Crystal Blue SP ("The Unicorn") ...

White MX5's always look great ... the "SP" badge adds the "wish it was mine" factor

Sweet looking lineup ....

MX5-SP Thanks for putting the pics up especially since it is the 10th birthday year of these great toys

Minx   Seriously is that the best you got ? I think you would do much better sticking with the qld mobility scooter club
I sure they appreciate your style of humour ( And i'll just stick with the other small groups that now are doing their own thing )

CaptainNate You would more than likely have a 1 in 3 chance spotting the unicorn if are on the northside of town

Craig Top only comes off in winter which in qld equates to about 6 weeks a year...
too dang hot otherwise

MINX you should know by now that SPs are perfect and way better than any SE.
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Hey, here's an idea... why don't we have a brief debate on the pros and cons of the SP vs SE - I don't think this has ever been done before? :P

[Logging off now. Will check progress again in 3 months - assuming I have sufficient supplies of pop-corn to sustain me during the debate].

Yes, it defiantly makes the blue one look rather dull, doesn't it?

[BTW: Since those pix were taken... Snow White was treated to a complete body-wash; Swiss Vax Cleanser; Mothers California Gold Clay Bar treatment; Swissol Samurai Luxury Car Wax all over. Car smells vaguely like bubblegum, but now, bat droppings and mozzie splats ripple off the paintwork like water off a ducks back. This is an annual event for Snow White - nothing to do with Foo Foo Dust migrating north].

Hey, Troy, you can bet your last snowball that the two white SPs were compared down to the number of locust corpses in the intercooler grilles. Scores are still being tallied. If we can tempt FFD out of the garage, we might be able to make other performance comparisons on the road.

Oops. Where is the edit button? Late night, about to go to bed and the auto spell-correct tripped me up.

Mine never had a clay bar near it, but had the Swissol cleaner then wax applied every six months or so. Not sure about the clear side repeaters though (hides from Gerard).

About to do the new car next weekend if the weather is good....

Get over yourself. The SP was only ever about the engine.

Everything else was standard Ho-Hum. Not even lsd.
