Crack in Dash

Well, I did it - took option 1!! as I currently don't have any tools at my place. I found it quite comfortable, either that or I'm still wacked out on panadine. Some things of note for anyone who stumbles across this one...

- I unclipped a cable that looks like it opens and closes the air vents (possibly)
- had to move a bundle of wires out of the way
- squeeze the soft a/c tube to make room and unscrewed with a stubby phillips head

I assume it's just the one screw? The one that's attached to a metal bracket and the dash?

I think there is about 3 screws/brackets that attach the dash to the metal frame of the dash. In my experience it is one of the screws/brackets that is the issue. As long as you removed the screw/bracket that is directly under the crack you should be OK. By the way the bracket I am referring to is the plastic one that is part of the underside of the dash, not the metal bracket. My take on it is that for some reason the metal bracket puts pressure on the dash. You will start to notice a slight bump in the dash, and then over time this bump will become a crack. I believe you need to remove the plastic part as it will under pressure from the metal bracket. Hope that makes sense?

Yup, that's the one I removed - which is good, the other screws look like a complete pain to remove.
Glad I finally got around to doing it!! No more growing crack.

sorry to bump an old thread, ive got the exact same problem with my NA6. Is it possible to just replace that portion of the dash? how easy is it to remove/install?

You can't just replace the top half of the dashboard on the NA's unfortunately, you have to replace the whole dash assembly.

Another option is to wrap the top of the dash after you have drilled holes (to prevent them spreading) and attempt to fill the crack.
