Rear Brake Assy replacement - labor cost

I have recently bought myself a set of new rear brake callipers, pads and rotors with the original intention of fitting them myself however have now decided to hand over some folding stuff to get the job done as rego renewal is approaching fast

What is a reasonable labor price to have the callipers, pads and rotors fitted along with brake bleed & handbrake adjustment? Or anyone interested in helping me fit them for a small fee?

It's only about an hour of work tops, so work off that, depending on their labour rates. :-)

Well...I ended up being adventurous and done the job myself after finding a few good DIY videos on youtube.

The only thing I thought a bit odd when doing the job was that my car had none of the W spring clips fitted to the existing pads and none were included with the Bendix pads I bought.

Are these spring clips critical and can they be bought separately if really needed?

Another question regarding the handbrake adjustment, mine takes about 8 clicks before it really grabs on a sloped surface and doesn't seem to grab quickly, is this normal or does it need more adjustment?

Brake adjustment no of notches is normally referred to in repair manuals a modest investment.If it feels too many notches just re adjust it. Not sure about spring clips but assume if these were fitted they are required.

I think the number of clicks is 7 on the handbrake.

The W clips are recommended, but not required.

All they do is keep the pads spread when the brakes aren't applied.


Without the clips you may get some rattles and squeals/squeaks as the pads rest slightly on the brake disc while driving (not enough to hold a brake on, just resting lightly)
The brakes will still work perfectly normal.


The clips are a Mazda part, so just head to the local dealership.

Ref handbrake adjustment, Haynes manual says:
1993 & earlier: 5 - 7 clicks;
1994 & later: 7 - 9 clicks.

Rod's Enthusiat manual for the 1.8 litre says: 7 - 9 clicks.
