Just do 11:1, buy a drum.

Fill 90% with pump E85, water it down to E70 (E70 is the lowest the servo goes in winter). This way you will always have a consistent mix and never end up with a shortage of ethanol in your fuel.

Go to dyno.
Buy fuel a couple times a year.
????
Profit.

Yeah i get that part. Good idea for safety!!

My issue is when i am halfway to Tamworth for a HILLCLIMB weekend and need to fill up with E85 i will be screwed.
Would be awesome if i could just trailer it.
Living in an apartment in the city does not really allow this though. :frown:

Reading as much as possible on MT.net and it appears, well according to SAV anyways, that say running 8.6:1 actually creates more torque and horsepower as you can run higher Timing then say 9:1.
It all gets very confusing going through everyones varying opinions!!! :?

Doesn't fuel go off though? (Ie: It's Octane drops over time)

Not to mention it's maybe not too safe/legal to store a 200l drum of fuel (unless you've got land)

Just get a head job! Won't that let you make more power at less boost, lag and detonation?

What sav says is correct for 98, which is why 11:1 not 12.5:1 for E85 is also correct, he will say 11:1 or 11.5:1 if you can find his E85 posts.

You are allowed to store petrol of course. You can also run dual maps and run its wastegate wired open on 98 to the track or daily.

Or ms3 and flex fuel it.

Either way compression, big turbo and E85 is the answer.

Achieve this buy purchasing servo e85 and then diluting it down to e70 in a barrell.

This way you guarantee that you ALWAYS have the right fuel mix and do not have to buy 400 dollar drums of sucrugen.

Where are you getting your E85?
I've found it's solid E70 everytime i buy EFLEX at charlestown - Seems they have kept the winter 70% for over 18months now.
(yes I've tested every batch I've bought).

That is interesting.
I have heard a similar story from a few people.
I wonder why??

still, on the compression ratio front, no one i have spoken to has been able to say with certainty what i could run on 98 octane.

Has everyone here, if they replaced there pistons just dropped to say 8.6:1 or is there anyone here aiming for say 300hp running higher?? Eg-9.5:1.

I am terrified that going so low will make the car really dead off boost.

9:1 in the Tubular T28 SE here, it was ok with the wastegate wired open, slow but not silly slow.

There are quite a few guys hapilly doing 98 into 10:1 engines.
It's a balance, if you're really worried, run down at 9:1 and more boost, remember though a well designed MX5 turbo wont be a dog off boost, because you can be making respectable boost from super low in the rev range.

Also charlestown. Ive never tested it, I just get the laptop and retune whenever the car doesnt seem spot on.

But my car is on e10 right now cos it has a stock engine and no ecu.

I mainly deal with Astinas and Lasers mostly. Recently most owners have started moving away from the regular 8.2:1 pistons you find in early BPTs from Familias. And now using 9.0:1s. On most setups, the boost has been coming on 500-700rpm earlier.

Old skool BPTs (8.2:1) full is about 32-3500rpm. On the 9.0:1s, full boost as been about 25-2700rpm. And the only change as been the pistons. All running on 98 pump fuels.

Thanks for the heads up.

That is exactly the kind of data i was after.
So 9:1 seems to be the spot?

I could/will run Water injection or E85 at events to run higher boost.
I was hoping i could get away with 9.5:1 but that may be pushing it and i do need it to be safe.

Nothing worng with going higher that 9.0:1. As long as good fuel and a good ecu are used.

Im on the same boat Dweezle,

Im tossing between 9.0:1 or 10.9:1 they are my only options atm in a 84.5mm piston. I would have went with 9.5:1 if I had the choice though but I think ill just settle for the 9:1 as it will give me some more room for det
