Lol..... Oh no......
How long is a piece of string?
Sorry not meaning to be an asshole, have a look at the thread is titled along the lines of "is 12x12 maps on a megasquirt enough for itb".
Best is so ill defined you will never get an answer.

Same answer as always then, the one your tuner recommends.
Do they say why? I wouldn't have thought there would be that much difference between boosted and boosted with itbs.
Ms in ms2 plus upgrades and 3 variety are supposed to be capable of doing anything. I'm sure you know where to ask for more information on them.
Motec m84 would be my mainstream choice.
Vipec and haltec are generally considered good, though I think they now price in at motec levels.
Again though, the people with the most experience are the tuners.....

Re: 1.8 Build specs. PLEASE CRITICISE!!!
Raising this topic again!!
Starting to get to the serious "buy parts" stage.
As much as i would like to run 11:1 turbo on E85 i just do not think i will always have access to the corn syrup.
What would be the highest suggested Comp ratio with boost that i could run on 98 octane?
Or am i chasing a response ghost by going Higher Comp with boost??
As i understand it, due to our heads flowing so badly, Det is a major issue with high compression + Boost.
S2000's get away with it due to the excellent flow characteristics their heads have.

Re: 1.8 Build specs. PLEASE CRITICISE!!!
anyone who turbos a stock nb8b or na6 runs boost with 10:1.
and it is generally then the rods that go the same as all the motors.
i would think with a strong motor you would be able to run 10:1 with 98 and a good tune, Dann and Waz? but just limit boost maybe?

Re: 1.8 Build specs. PLEASE CRITICISE!!!
I'm not a turbo man but wouldn't det be a consequence of boost+CR+chamber design? If you took the normal steps with a turbo head chamber that you take with an NA chamber to reduce det then would it help? i.e. smooth it all out a bit, round off the sharp ridges between the chamber and the head mating surface and use valves with heads thick enough to dissipate heat effectively.

Re: 1.8 Build specs. PLEASE CRITICISE!!!
Rods are the weakest engine component so you should consider upgrading them if going above 220rwhp.
OEM Pistons can handle up to 300rwhp according to some but if you're replacing your rods, you may as well upgrade the pistons too.
Typical non-E85 turbo compression ratios are 8.6:1 or 9:1.
Spend some time on miataturbo.net too, lots of useful information there, just be sure to use the SEARCH facility before asking newbie questions or you'll get violently "forum-raped".

Re: 1.8 Build specs. PLEASE CRITICISE!!!
11:1 + E85 + boost is safe as houses.
And it will be a response monster, like all of the good supercharger stuff with none of the bad.
12:1 and the rest of it is just like 10:1 and 98 octane.
11:1 is safe as houses but you should to round out the combustion chamber and take all the sharp edges off or you are an idiot lol. This goes for any turbo build really.

My big issue is the car being dríven to events and not have a ready source of E85.
Otherwise i love the idea, as it means i can build the 11:1 engine, run that NA till funds are rebuilt for the turbo and then go nuts.

Re: 1.8 Build specs. PLEASE CRITICISE!!!
get it tuned on e70.
Achieve this buy purchasing servo e85 and then diluting it down to e70 in a barrell.
This way you guarantee that you ALWAYS have the right fuel mix and do not have to buy 400 dollar drums of sucrugen.

I also like this idea, hard to get pump E85 in QLD though.

Re: 1.8 Build specs. PLEASE CRITICISE!!!
The other option i have been toying with is to just freshen the block.
New Rings, Bearings and use Forged Rods with Stock Pistons.
This obviously depends on the condition of it all when i pull it apart.
That way i could hopefully just give it a fresh hone and be good for 250-300hp all day long.
Sounds too good to be true.
Dann - What would you suggest is the highest comp ratio for Pump 98?
Would say 9.5:1 work?
