VRS head gasket kit

Postby evil_weevil » Mon Oct 22, 2012 9:48 pm

Hi all,
I did a search but failed to see much, so apologies if posted already.

where do people get their or have gotten their VRS kits from?
have you spent the extra for them or did you go with another 'brand' which is similar?
If another brand, what was it? did it have the same gear?

A mate asked me the other day about it and I had no idea and got me thinking!

Cheers,
Chris

Which MX5 do you have?

There is a NA6 one off ebay (from an Australian seller) - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VRS-GASKET-S ... 231695849c

Or try our forum sponsors. There's one on each of the Eastern states.

MX5parts have them for less than that but I've just had issues with one of their Reinz head gaskets - needed to expand and drill new holes for block/head coolant flow in the exhaust area. Maybe buy the Reinz set plus a genuine Mazda head gasket?

Otherwise the last set I bought was aftermarket from CNSAuto 3 years ago. No problems with that set: all good quality and very cheap.

why would you buy an aftermarket head gasket? Saving a few dollars seems like faulty thinking considering that a head gasket can actually last as long as the motor. If Mazda still supply them you would have to think its either made by the OEM supplier or at the least from a certified supplier.

We went with the cnc gasket kit with a genuine head gasket from mx5 parts uk.

Everything bar the bloody valve gasket has been perfect for 20 000k so far.
Next time i will also use a genuine valve cover gasket.
