The toy - The project
Hello all
I brought this mx5 NA a few months ago. Since I'm going to eastern creek next week I figured I'd finally post my car here.

My dad also has an NC.
My plans for this car is to turn it into a nice track car. I will turbo it eventually. I decided before I do anything I will see what power it has as I was told the previous owner spent $20k on it. It has 84.385rwkw... from what I've seen there is a 32% power loss so correct me if I'm wrong... 64.385/0.68 = 94.68kw which in terms of eastern creek puts me in class 9?

Obviously none of that $20k was spent on increasing power.....

Yeah my run around car the kia has been around... It gets noticed even though its a kia.
From looking at it.. I don't think the guy spent $20k.. I think they told me fibs lol. Unless it wss mainly spent towards labour. For a naturally aspirated car it goes alright. Ill see how it goes on saturday.

You're under the 85rwkW limit for 1600 NA's and the 90rwkW for 1800 NA's & NB's so you'll be in Class 5 or 6 depending on what model car you have.

Nice looking car. It's an NA6 with the B6 1600cc engine. Remember the MX5 club class rules apply to rear wheel kw. If it's the first figure you quoted of 84.385 rwkw then it just fits you into the MX5 club's class 5 85rwkw spec. If it's either of the two 64rwkw figures then you're way inside the class 5 limit.

... or potentially in Class 4 (Clubman), depending on how many and what type of modifications you have. Refer page 11 of the Victorian rules for details on Clubman class.

Ah I didn't realise it was rwkw. That's fine. Class 5 it is. Going to be a fun day

Having that BD4s sticker in the engine bay means Paul Brell might have had something to do with the work done on the car. He's now running Boss Tuning in Gladesville. You could get in contact with him if you want to know more about the car's history.

Spotted that sticker as well and thought 20k might not have been so far fetched....
They were Sydney's best 4 cylinder and turbo workshop back in the late 90s. There was a lot of big dollar toys in that shop when I was in there with a friend who was looking at buying Dean Evans GTiR.
The MX5 was a lot newer then, so I assume they would have been more expensive to tweak back then too.
Could just be a random sticker too....

I spoke to Tom from bd4. From his memory they just did the intake. I might go see Paul to see if he says any different.

Re: The toy - The project
Very easy to tip $20k into an MX5. Much better idea to do what you've done and buy one that's had heaps spent already. You'll no doubt hear from others on this topic too, but do consider getting quicker yourself before tipping more money into a turbo.
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Yeah its a kia Rio.
I'm planning to do a lot of track before I do anything. I have to pay it off first so I may as well make the most of it
