PSS9 Question

Hi All,

I'm after a little advise from the PSS9 owners please.
I have looked and looked at these for ages now and finally ordered them on Friday.
My question is on the top hats, do I need to buy the FatCat kit as well or will these just bolt on to my SP?
What size bump shops to order?
Do I need new top hats as well?

Car will sit about 1.5 inches lower than stock. Not slammed.
Heasmans will probably do the fitting so they should know but just wanted to check with the suspension savi people here.
Any help would be greatly appriaciated.

Hi Bear,

All that you need to is transfer the top hats from your SP with the little rubber things under it, and bolt onto the PSS9. Nothing else is required, the bump stops are already assembled onto the pss9.
Ordering bump stops from fatcat is optional, but i didnt go that way simply because of cost.

I haven't adjusted the height on my pss9 yet, i quite like how they seat on stock settings.

aren't the pss9 an inverted strut meaning that the bump stops are actually inside the shock body?

if this is true then they will come with bump stops built in and changing them (if you wish to do so) is something only a shock rebuilder can do.

I dont know about that... but there are bump stops on them.

Just got home noticed this.

I have run pss9s for a little over a year, use your OEM hats to begin with, I do recommend upgrading the bump stops to the fat cats but it's mainly to reduce the front supplied bump stops with the bilsteins, which are oversized and you will ride them.

Your welcome to test drive my car, it's been awhile but I had them rebuilt recently by Heasmeans, mainly to address an original installation issue and test they are all working as intended.

Thanks Koops and Hayden, I have a much better understanding now after 4 hours interwebbing.
What length FCM bump stops, 36, 46 or 54mm did you buy Hayden? and how was your holiday.....

No, they are a monotube shock but they are not inverted in this application.

The bumpstops the Bilsteins come with ae only 40 mm long so hardly any different to the FCM ones.

We had an MX5 in the other day (to Heasmans) that had been fitted with the FCM bumptops which were causing a rattle, as the fcm ones are not the correct internal diameter and dont hold in place properly which was causing the support washer to rattle. This was rectified by refitting Bilstein bumpstops. :roll:
