Clak noise from rear end.

Postby Basho » Sat Oct 06, 2012 5:43 pm

I've got a clack noise in the rear end and it's driving me nuts, it only comes on when I'm braking , sometimes it claks as soon as I brake at other times when I'm braking and slow right down but still moving and still with pressure on the brake-- it claks .

I does not clack every time in the same circumstances , it does not clack all the time , it does clack more when the car is fully warmed up.

I seems to clak from the passenger side, and I had a moody wheel bearing there which I just replaced and it clak 's less.

I cleaned up the pads and regreased the caliper and the fracker still clacks.

I cannot make it clak .

It does not clak in corners but often will clak on the first brake application after a corner .

I'm thinking that this is just moody enough to be a diff clack.

Anybody else been dríven clackers or know what this frakin clakin is ?

I't driving me to- not necessarily a bad thing

you might want to check your rear calipers and see if they need to be rebuilt, i had an issue before where the caliper would get stuck then make a pop kind of sound then release itself. It didnt happen all the time, probably once a week.

Though come to think of it, you would probably notice your brakes dragging and smoking up  before the pop noise happens.

Sounds like brake pads flopping around.

Try tightening up the adjustment gear behind the piston. Also make sure you still have the M shaped springs holding the pads apart.

You could be hitting bump stops on your shocks, a shock might be shot.

Turns out it's actualy comming from the front , put the OEM struts/springs back in , still there , tried Pedders yesterday and they couldn't find it , I'm guessing that it's the brake pads, whoever fitted the last fronts didn't fit the backing shims so I'm guessing that they maybe reused the old spring clips , which again at a guess maybe is causing the issue, I'm going to get new mounting kits and shove them in see if it shuts it the fark up.
