Timing / phone / data logger mounting - what is secure?

I'm looking to get a mount for my iPhone 5 to use with Harry's Lap Timer Pro for timing at the next club day. I know there's plenty of people who do similar or with Race Chrono on Android, but what I'm wondering is how people went about choosing a mount to make sure it's secure enough for the track.

Obviously it needs to secure to the windscreen strongly, but the grip on the phone or other device would also need to be rather strong.

So my questions are really these:
Is there something in particular I should be looking for in terms of sunction mount and the grip on the device itself?
Is there anything scrutineers are particularly concerned with when they look at such things? If so, does that differ between events under CAMS or AASA regs?
Are there any recommended mounts or brands?

CAMS is definitely more strict than AASA.

At CAMS events, scrutineers will usually not accept any suction-cup mounts. This is certainly the case at Supersprints. Every now and then, I give it a try with my PerformanceBox stuck on the inside of the windscreen and always get told to remove it. Some people get away with using the suction cup mount for GoPro cameras but only with a "secondary restraint" ie. cable ties.

I've never had an issue with using my PerformanceBox at club trackdays which are held under a AASA permit. It remains to be seen how tough the scrutineers will be when we try the South Circuit on 27th October, which will be under a CAMS permit.

To avoid any dramas with your iPhone, you should aim to get a metal bracket that is attached securely to something metal on your car (rollbar is an ideal place). Also use cable-ties to attach the iPhone to the bracket as a secondary restraint. Can't help you with any recommended brands for the bracket.
