Here comes the 56k assault...

I made some custom door cards. I bought some MDF and cut it to shape, covered it in foam for padding, and then glued fabric on it. The blue straps cost me $1 per side, and I used the metal covers from the handle on my old Bass amp.
Image

Image

I got a BD bar
Image

which allowed me to rock a Bikini Top from Project-G (brilliant guys to deal with, would buy from again)
Image

On a photoshoot at Doncaster Westfield, we tried to fit as many people in and on my car as possible. We got 5. Pretty slammed at the back!
Image

The low got me interested on having it on a more permanent basis, so I got these from Shox.com (great customer service, phenomenal price)
Image

and these from Rupewrecht (my JDM supplier of choice)
Image

and these from FatCat Motorsports (great customer service, not the cheapest of products, but incredibly well crafted)
Image

which after doing this (with the help of Pamex and his_kansei)
Image

lead to this.
Image

I wanted even more toggle switches in my car, so I made this;
Image

which after installing;
Image

looks like this;
Image

Rupe brought in a 340mm Mazdaspeed D-cut, which I immediately and impulsively bought
Image

He also imported me a set of Mazdaspeed MS-01s wheels (15x6.5 +35 at 4.3kg a corner)
Image

which look like this;
Image

I also got a muffler from an exhaust shop put on, just as something a bit more audible than the stock job. It's a bit raspy for my taste, so I want to get something smoother.

THINGS STILL TO COME:
-Better muffler (corns)
-RS Factory Stage ducktail spoiler
-NA8 style rear beaver cover (the panel which holds the rego plate on), probably from mr pham
-better window control switches, like what the NB and NC have (one touch power windows)
-Mazdapseed front bumper
-new soft top with glass
-better seats (lotus elise seats are very tempting)
-gauge faces from Revlimiter.net
-(maybe) iPad based information/entertainment unit (to control lighting, windows, music, and to display diagnostics)

Eventually, I'll put the motor in the hands of wozzah to build up. I'm planning on reaching ~100rwkw while still having a comfortable, reliable daily drive. So much stuff, so little money do it all with!

It's been almost a year since I updated it last!

I've just thought it'd be interesting to have a list of mods I've done so far.
  • Whiteline 24mm non-adjustable front sway bar
  • Whiteline 14mm non-adjustable rear sway bar
  • Koni adjustable shocks
  • Mazdaspeed NA springs
  • FatCat Motorsport bump stops and dust boots
  • Cusco 2-point front brace
  • NA8 OEM rear brace
  • OEM-style front lip
  • MX5+ front rego plate bracket
  • Smoked front indicators
  • Smoked side markers
  • Custom door cards with OEM speaker covers
  • Alpine Type-R door speakers
  • Dynamat-style stuff on the doors
  • Kenwood head unit
  • Custom retro-style toggle switches for pop-up lights and hazard lights
  • Custom retro-style toggle switches for power window control
  • Sun visor delete (because I can't see anything when they're down)
  • Foamectomy on driver's seat for lower seating position
  • Black leather with blue stitching handbrake and gear shift gaiters
  • Aftermarket upper shift boot from doctorMX5
  • Voodoo gear knob, sandblasted
  • Mazdaspeed 340mm D-cut steering wheel with black Mazdaspeed horn button
  • Mazdaspeed MS-01s wheels wrapped in Yokohama S-Drives
  • Brown Davis roll bar
  • Weld-on exhaust shop muffler

All up, that's a little over $6,300 on parts for it. I regret nothing!

Looks great man. Glad you finally got what you wanted. Now get some spacers.

I'm pretty happy with it :D

You should turn up to GC more often!

They're incredible wheels. Accelerating, braking and turning are all noticeably quicker. They do need a bit more poke though :P

Hi Lee,
The car looks great.
Greg.
When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?

It already scrapes on enough as it is, I don't think any more low is required :P

Cheers! It's incredibly close to what I'd consider to be exterior aesthetic perfection. I'd still love to have some kind of subtle ducktail on the back, and the later style of rego plate panel thing. I figure I'll get all the panels I want together and get them painted at the same time.
