You're not the first and probably won't be the last. I remember going to the other side of Brisbane once with a mate to help out someone who thought all sorts of bad things were happening to his MX-5 - he was out of fuel...

Haha yeah... my bad :P

Update..

So the last couple of weeks ive been thinking about cutting my bonnet up a bit. I marked it all out last week then pussed out :P. Determined to get it done i marked it back out, bonnet off and made the first cut. No turning back now :O :O.

Finished cutting it all out, touched up some of the paint and put it back on the car. Im wrapped with how it came out. Really happy with it :D Might not be to everyones liking but meh. Its my car haha :P

That took BALLS (or lots of alcohol/drugs)!

What did you use to make the cuts? They look great, no deformation of the hood.

Also, got any shots of the underside of the hood? This would show why you made the cuts where you did.

I doubt if it was possible due to the hood reinforcements, but 3 vents per side would have looked better.

My guess is angle grinder with a thin cutting disc.
Or possibly a dremel, but that would have taken ages, plus the cuts near the folds look to be a few mm across.

My money's on angle grinder and a steady hand.

Yeah it was pretty sketchy doing it thats for sure. I just used an Angle grinder and this disc :D so hks_kansei nailed it :D Im pretty good with one of these but still making that first cut was very nerve racking.

Here is a pic of underneath the bonnet.. Front two vents are just behind the radiator and back two well one side is just behind the turbo..

Whoah, you cut the hood reinforcements too?

Wont that make the hood ripple (especially at your track speeds) or do you plan to add some reinforcing? Or is the hood actually stronger than I'm assuming?

Brave move cutting out all the reinforcement, hope you can get a spare bonnet to clear a defect if it ever happens.

Looks pretty good otherwise!

Ill see how it goes. Its still pretty stable and at the end of the day i reckon its still stronger then the carbon bonnet on my mates time attack civic. They flex like crazy. If it does go all crazy at speed ill reinforce it.

Rain doesnt bother me.

edit: @corners: i think the bonnet is the last thing i need to worry about. Ive said it loads of times before i plan on driving this on the street till it gets defected. Then it will just take it off the road and leave it as a track only car which is what i prefer. But atm ill just see how long it lasts :)

Hahah fair enough! Enjoy! I'm curious to see how long it takes and what you end up getting done for :)
