How tall are you?

I'm 6' and I fit under a BD bar with a couple of inches to spare. On stock seats the top of my head was about level with the bar, possibly just above, but in a Sparco Sprint (care of your brother) on stock rails I'm a couple of inches below it (and still below it with helmet on).

I'd have thought it was easier to max out the lowness with your seat and mounting position before mixing it up with extra high rollbars.

Sitting in a Sparco SPrint Jnr mounted on stock rails, both him and myself have our heads above his BD Bar.
We are both approx 182cm.
If i slouch and bend my back i can get it under but that is going to cause a world of pain with a harness in an accident.

It all depends if you are long of leg, or long of body. I am just under 6', and in a NB8B seat my head was just higher than the bar. In a Sparco Spint V on NA rails , I had about 5 mm clearance from the bar top. Yet I have seen sone one at 5'10 who's head was above the bar.

BAD NEW IS -

My car is not with me at the moment.
And it will not be for a little while.

GOOD NEWS IS -

It is currently being fitted with a Bolt In Half Cage courtesy of AGI PRECISION.
This bar is going to have to be 80mm above the top of the windscreen.

This will just allow me to be just 50mm under the top of the Main Hoop with a helmet on and in a Sparco Sprint V on stock rails.
It will be quite high.
But with no roof to worry about, i will be happy that i will have no CAMS issues and safety should be much increased.
The cage will also have shoulder protection by actually coming out past my shoulders.
This will make me soooo much more happier than having say a BD bar or MX5 Plus bar that just runs down almost in the middle of your back.

Not for everyone i know, but hey. :P

Hopefully this will be built and installed with the next week or so.

I really do not know how anyone is fitting what has to be close to 100mm under a BD BAR if you are average height.
The helmet is almost 50mm thick, and then the bar has to be 50mm clear of the main hoop.
I must be doing something wrong with how i sit

In other news,
I have removed the AIRCON completely from the car including the evaporator.

Many thanks to Chris Gough for helping me out with a replacement pipe duct thingy. (even if i did have to dig it out of your yesterdays seafood bin )
Makes access to the whole hot side of the engine bay so much easier.

I also figured out why my radiator fan was not turning on.

Image

Something had happened in the past clearly that made the fan separate from the motor and melt?
No idea what could have done this.
Anyways, got me a 2nd hand good one from a forum member for cheap. CHEERS!!
I now have cooling at traffic lights

Bought a bunch of tyres from OZZY TYRES when they had a deal on.
My brother and i bought between us,
4x Kumho KU31
8x Nitto NT555

Image

We will run the NITTO's as a bit of a test.
http://www.nittotire.com/Tire/nt555
They came to be only like $70 a tyre with the deal and the specs suggest they should be similar to an Adrenaline Re001.
We will get to test these out in a month at Wakefield.
Will post review.

Also still gathering bits and pieces for the rebuild.
Got hold of a Coolant Reroute from a forum member.
I believe it is MX5 Pluses system.

Image

Looks the goods, though i now realise it appears to be a hotside pipe.
Really want to run coldside.
So will have to see if it is just as easy as reversing the Thermostat housing and maybe doing a bit of a mod to the piping.

Other than that, just really keen to see the cage being built and figuring out all the bits and pieces for the new BOLT IN HALF CAGE for NA/NB with glass roof from AGI.

Hey mate.

Cool update :D

I also have that AC bypass duct thing, does he have any more? Having trouble finding another one and the ones in the US are all LHD versions.

With my "tall boy" MX5 Plus roll bar and Sparco Sprint V, my helmet is JUST under the roll bar. I'm a short guy though...

Thanks Mate.
Not quite at the same calibre as a PHAM UPDATE!! :D

I do not believe he does, contact GEOFIZ, i believe he has one.
Though he is in WA.

So your a short guy, and just fit under the bar.
Would you be 5cm under the bar with the helmet on?

The re route is definitely hot side and requires a land cruiser? Hose at the rear. Pretty comon at super cheap, has the correct bend and the correct diameter change.

Front connection uses a na8 top rad hose.
Cold side should be okay just rotating the housing and making a new pipe. Be careful of thermostat placement if using the additional sensor port as it's quite tight.

Thanks Sailaholic.

I can remove the front thermostat housing and just use a blanking plate on the head correct?

That is my plan and should tidy up the entire front section once i get my intake made that will run, much like intercooler piping, down into the mouth area.

Yup, or remove the whole lots and put a freeze plug in it.

Slouch in the seat when the scrutineer walks past!  Not sure if you'd get away with it at a CAMS race meeting though.

Thanks mate, will get in touch with him.

Yeah so without helmet I'm well under the tall boy roll bar and with helmet I just clear the roll bar, around 10-15mm I guess.

HAHAHAHAHA :D :D
I thought as much.
My lil brother has done a bunch of Hillclimb rounds this last half of the year and has had some difficulty with the BD Bar.
Only thing that has allowed him to race is that he carries the paperwork from the bar with him and states his case, pleading, begging to drive!

I really do not want to drive my car all the way to some go kart track to be told by some old bloke that i can not race cos my bar is to too low.
Might change my mind when it rains and i have no roof though!!

Acceptance of a rollbar with less than 50mm head clearance is at the discretion of the chief scrutineer. It is usually acceptable to drive road-registered MX-5 at supersprints or hillclimbs with no ROP. So offer to remove the rollbar to "make it safer" ... and then enjoy the reaction.

Hey Dweezle

Pics of your cage when you get it put in? Thinking of doing the same thing.

What do you think the aircon system weighed?
