Exhaust booked - please leave feedback.

Postby Forshaw » Tue Sep 25, 2012 12:46 pm

Just booked in for a custom catback exhaust. Just after a little feedback from some of our more experienced members as this is the first car I've done aftermarket mods to. Cheers

DETAILS:
2" stainless steel mandrel bend catback exhaust with a 3" chrome circular tip. Will also get it HPC coated ASAP. Wondering if the sizes are reasonable, fair. I was also quoted $700 for it, (without HPC, as the shop doesn't actually do that, I must go elsewhere.)

Thanks heaps!

2inch is larger than stock, but not huge. I think stock on the NA6 (I assume NA8 is same) is about 1.75inch or something (it's tiny)

Personally, I wouldn't bother with HPC coating. It's already made from stainless so rust isn't a worry, and being only a catback heat isn't much of an issue.
If it were me I'd not even bother with stainless, I'd get mild steel for everything and just get a stainless tip.

edit:
what is your aim with the setup?
Power? just noise?

Thanks guys, I'm not going to worry about the HPC then, but I'm going with stainless steel for piece of mind etc, I can't see myself getting rid of this car for a while.

I'm after power but I also know its not going to make a huge difference.

Planning on looking at some headers, and a high flow cat but I'll purchase those in the next few weeks.

Cheers,
Aaron

Correct, however not mandrel bent, tiny 20 year old cat, rubbish headers, and a chambered restrictive muffler.

This will help a lot assuming straight through muffler, However I wouldnt suggest the 3" tip, it will not sound nice (drone).
