Wilwood big brake kit

Postby Novice1 » Thu Jun 28, 2012 11:34 pm

I have heard conflicting information re the wilwood kits fitting 15 inch enkei RP F1 wheels.

They seem to offer rotors from 10.5inches and over. Would the 10.5 inch be worth upgrading to, if it fits.

I highly doubt they would fit considering the NB8B brakes (what the yanks call Sport brakes) won't fit. In saying that, it may be the banjo bolt that hits on the RPF1 which the Wilwood has on the back of the caliper instead of on the outer face. Best bet is a trial fit of one wheel at the next track day. 8)

I doubt it's the banjo bolt as radial clearance with 15s is (generally) not a problem. The usual issue with NB8B (Sport) brakes not fitting with 15 inch wheels is a face clearance issue - the spokes of the wheel contact the outside face of the caliper.

Not sure about Wilwoods though. Might be able to tell you soon as a general (ie. not RPF1 specific) idea - I have a set of Wilwoods sitting at my inlaws place in the states, just not sure if my wife will have the baggage allowance to bring them home with her next month...

i can imagine wilwood response. "here is a caliper template, do you own research to them fitting or not."

i know they dont fit on 15x7 and 15x7.5 6ULs due to the spoke design. and have heard the same for RPF1s in 15s. The spokes are straight and not curved and towards the centre more. Done to save weight and increase lip size.

I run willwoods under 15s on the race car. The key is the 'dogbone' mounting between the upright and the caliper, it determines where the caliper sits.

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

Where did you get your 'dogbone' bracket? Any chance of pics of it please?

Flyin miata do a willwood that uses the stock rotors, you could contact them to see if they fit.

I think MX52NV test fitted some RPF1s and willwoods you could try messaging him.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
