Just wondering if anyone has experience with some of these coilovers -

I'm kind of wary about not buying 'brand name' products, however I am tight on cash and probably will be forever - so I've started looking elsewhere. *cough ebay cough*

I was originally just going to buy some lowering springs and throw them on the stock shocks, but I figured if I'm going to spend the money I may as well just wait a week or two and get some coils...which I will be doing.

I also wanted to put them on before I got my 4WA done.

Any thoughts/info/the usual will be appreciated.

For only a little bit more money, you can get Yellow Speeds from Mania. Why don't you go that route?

That is definitely another option I am considering taking

I am trying to cut costs in every single thing at the moment though.

$200 could buy a hell of alot of nappies.....

If money is an issue don't but coil overs, buy shocks.

Test drove a set of yellow speed last night. Even worn out Koni sports had them so beat it was not even a competition.

That is also a option.
The roads around my place are pretty darn...shocking (mind the pun).
I've never actually dríven a car with coils, but I hear they're not too crash hot on poor roads?

I suppose coils are just kinda catching my attention due to the adjust-ability of them.

Also, if I went on the shock path I would probably be buying lowering springs first.
What effect would this have on the stock shocks?

Mind you it will only be temporary, lets say around a month or so.

Probably easier just to buy a lowered shock and spring combo from USA. (shox .Com)

Same test drive session I also drove a set of ohlins coil overs..... Awesome, almost a case of what bumps? And far more controlled.

Both Na models. Both had the same spring rates. Tried yellow speed on soft and hard settings.

So spending money on good valving does pay off. And coil overs can be good on the road. But if they are spending money on fancy height adjustment, the can't spend it elsewhere.

Could easily get away with shorter springs on normal shocks for a while, but I think you'll find its worth bring them in from the states as a package.

They are probably just bc coilovers under another name. They look very similar and bor chuan (bc as everyone calls them) offer private label rights (plr) which means people can have them stamped with their own brand name and colouring etc...
So in short they are probably fine. Bc are better than yellow speeds in my opinion (i have yellows in my car) and they are pretty proven now over the years.

Mahura coil overs are made by buddy club Japan which is different from buddy club usa and I thought different from bc who make the cheap coil overs we all know.

I thought it was BC Taiwan/China/wherever rather than Buddy Club?

I'm pretty sure I saw a set that had on them both the BC racing stickers (not buddy club) and the Maruha ones?

I'd probably steer clear of them and go some good well known shocks instead. They have good reviews on that ebay page, however that doesn't really tell you much about their longevity and performance.

With limited cash, I'd always go 'good' shocks rather than the cheapest of coilovers.

Do not buy coilovers that don't have an Australian distributor.

Unless you are prepared to replace or rebuilt them at your own cost.

If you buy something from overseas and it pops you on your own. Last time I rebuilt a coilover, it was $225 two years ago.

Suspension sellers have their own private unknown sources that can either rebuild a coilover, (cheaper than the above price, but not much), or supply you with a new part, (most likely the shock).

No good buying a $800 of coilovers and running the risk of spending $225-$450 (you'll need to do them in front/back pairs, even if only one is busted) rebuilding them. When there are heaps of Aussie distributor ones around for $1000-$1100.

So I THINK I've decided on getting a set of KYB Adjustable shocks with a set of Koni sport springs.
However the price from Mx5Mania, together, is still more then a set of yellowspeeds....
