Hey all, I've got a 2000 model NB8B (belonged to a previous forum member) and the old remotes are well past their used by date. I got tired of scratching the door trying to unlock it at night so I bought an aftermarket remote from a locksmith but I can't seem to get the car to go to reprogramming mode so it'll recognize it.
All the instructions I've read say you've gotta open the door, lock and unlock the car with an old remote then turn the key from "off" to "on" (or "acc" to "on" depending on the instructions you're following) 20 times leaving it at "off". I know this by heart because I've done it a few dozen times and the car just sits there instead of flashing hazards like it's supposed to.
It's occurred to me that the car doesn't have an alarm (at least I think it doesn't) so could this be an issue? Any help would be appreciated.

your friendly remote car alarm guy will do it probably for little or nothing. I think the past used dt is not right.

Re: Reprogramming remotes for NB8B
Are you referring to the factory Mazda remote keyfob (mine has three buttons like in the photo)?
AFAIK, any modern rolling frequency remote keyfob cannot be duplicated by buying an aftermarket "Learning" remote keyfob. And the factory remote keyfob for the NB8B is a rolling frequency type.

They're black ones with 3 blue buttons like you got with an old 121. Mr locksmith ordered one that was supposed to be compatible. Could he have been talking rubbish?

Standard remotes. It's a pretty early NB8B so it looks like it's got older ones.

Re: Reprogramming remotes for NB8B
Hmmmm. I've never seen an NB8B with remote keyfob like that from factory. Must be generation older. I'm sure someone can confirm from the forum.
One way to check if your remote keyfob is a rolling frequency (or not) is by pressing one of the button (lock or unlock - it doesn't matter). If the LED lights up so long as you're pressing the button, there's a good chance a learning remote keyfob can learn the frequency.
If the LED only light up for a fraction and turns off (irrespective if you're still holding the button down), chances are, it's a rolling frequency model.

Re: Reprogramming remotes for NB8B
Yeah the LED stays on so long as you hold a button. So the only issue left is getting into Programming Mode. I've had a read of the NB8A alarm manual (since the remotes are older) and the instructions are similar to the ones that came with the aftermarket keyfob but nothing seems to work.
Does anyone know how to trigger programming mode for an NB8B? Or does anyone have a link for an NB8B alarm manual? Can't seem to find one by searching the forum.

Ahah! All sorted. The siren was turned off for some reason and you can't reprogram without it. Thanks all.
