Re: DanZig's NA6
Whilst having a beer I decided to look around the enginer bay. In doing so I decided to remove the aircon as this is never going to be daily and if it's too hot for me (would have to be pretty hot) I'll just drive our other car:
Also gave it a service and made a basic randall-style intake. Once the rocker rover is dry I'll get a decent pic
In driving news I've booked 4 laps of the ring from rent4ring in this little bugger:
• Stripped out and fitted with a full Weichers rollcage, racing seats and harnesses
• Upgraded H&R suspension with modified geometry
• Toyo R888 grooved semi-slicks fitted to wider, lightweight, 15" Motec alloys
• Racing four-into-one exhaust and sports air intake
• Upgraded brakes with top-spec Endless Racing pads, fluid and hoses.
Cannot wait and I'll try and get some pics and hopefully a vid up while I'm over there. Should tie me over until I get back and I can hit up another practice day!

Re: DanZig's NA6
Had an absolute ball at Collingrove on the weekend. Could not have asked for a nicer day, not a single cloud in the sky and a lovely warm track. Managed to break my PB a few times finally settling with a 38.86. Seems like that last service was worth the effort, the car has been running fantastic. Looking forward to treating the old girl over summer with a bit of a cleanup and plenty of top down drives!
With a couple of mates. That MPS was damn quick running 36's

Re: DanZig's NA6
Been a fair while since an update but it's time to get back on track in the new year.
Briefly I had a blast in Europe but most of it was pretty car unrelated thanks to the now fiance but I did manage to see the Merc, Lambo and Ferrari museum. More importantly however I got in 4 laps of the ring which was one of the best driving experiences of my life. The pics, games and videos really do not do this track justice! I decided it would be smart to get an instructor and Dale did a fantastic job of keeping me from imminent death. He also happened to have owned a turbo MX previously which he's dríven around the ring on many occasions:
A shot of his before he sold:
A shot of me not killing my fiance:
Another big highlight of the trip was a surprise from my fiance and best mate which gave me a 15min drive in either a 458 or Gallardo. It was a tough choice but I've always been a big fan of the prancing horse:
Enough about that stuff though. After coming back with a severely drained bank account (bought a few silvia goodies as well while away) I toyed with the idea of selling the MX and getting back into an import. That lasted about a day and a hill drive until I decided that was dumb and I just needed to spoil the little MX a bit.
A chat with Grant (GSLENDER) and he was commissioned to order and build me these goodies:
Which will be combined with this and torsen as soon as I've got the MS sorted on the stock car:
Basically as much as I try and as inspired by how hard fellas push stockies I just need a bit more oomph. I've already obtained the papers to make it legal so as soon as she's running and tuned within what is deemed legal I'll be sorting it all out. The car will continue to be my weekend fun car and used to compete in hill climbs and other various events. The silvia will be my remain my track specific car so I'm not to cause too much damage to the MX.

Interested in how the project goes and getting it road legal here in SA. How much power are you looking for?

Not really phased by numbers but I'd say around 200hp at the wheels would be nice when everything is in place. I want to keep it pretty reliable
so I don't want anything overboard or which the missus can't drive haha.

Sounds good mate. Should help the times up Collingrove too, not that your slow! A work mate has a westfield with a 20v that runs similar times to you.

Re: DanZig's NA6
Didn't really get a chance to do much exciting due to our other car still being out of action and some other stuff coming up but I did manage to finally get a hard top.
It will need a respray and a little touch up but for the price I couldn't pass it up:
Average phone photo but it gives the general idea.
Hopefully this week once the other car is sorted I can get stuck into installing the ECU.

Re: DanZig's NA6
As soon as I got the hardtop I've been meaning to get the car tinted. Mate who works in the industry hooked me up and I'm very happy with the job.
Mods are going pretty slowly as I'll now be waiting for my radio surround DIN panel from mrpham to install my wideband and gauges so that's gonna slow my MS install as well as sorting out the VTPS.
Another big reason is I've been trying to get on top of my dedicated track car and getting it ready for Mt Alma this year. Hopefully make some good progress this long weekend.

Re: DanZig's NA6
TPS has been on my mind a lot lately and I've been looking for either an auto TB or bimmer vtps and just half my luck when I walked into u-pull-it and the first car there was a 735.
Success:
So there's a few things to buy for the turbo conversion:
I've ordered an Exedy HD clutch because mine's slipping when I'm really aggressive.
Need a decent LSD and 1.8 rear end.
About to order some RX8 injectors from mania, they're pretty well priced. I know there's better but these should be suitable for my immediate goals.
I'll be doing a coolant reroute since I'll be doing this engine out and it's gonna see it's share of track work - any recommendations here as there's a few to choose from?
Piping and exhaust will be taken care of by a mate in stainless.
I'll be grabbing a good cond T25 from an SR when I'm ready.
Waiting on my DIN panel from John, can't wait and I'll do my WB install once it's here.
Fair bit of work considering I'm working on the silvia at the same time but it'll come together in the end I'm sure. Thankfully I've parted with my KE which has freed the funds up to go ahead with all of this.

Re: DanZig's NA6
Well I've gathered up a few more parts which include a good cond t25, new rx8 injectors, pick up hd clutch this weekend and then all of a sudden out of no where I had to buy this:
Another R32 GTST with a terrible kit and wheels. It was a bit too cheap for me to pass up and I've wanted one ever since selling mine. Another reason for it's purchase is the mx is pissing out oil quite profusely from pretty much everywhere. It's at the point where as soon as I get the MS up and running (which I can do now as I have a backup car) i'll be taking the engine out for a freshen up. I'll do a comp test ect to see whether it's worth doing new rings, bearings ect. It will also make the clutch install a lot easier because last time it completely sucked.
I'm def enjoying being back in a turbo, though, it still doesn't have the handling and direct feel of the mx. It has also made me question whether I want to keep going down the turbo route or perhaps keep it a nice NA. With two turbo cars perhaps I don't need a third and I've always been one for the sound of an NA.
A lot of thinking to do. As well as tinkering to get the MS going.
Also, John's gauge panel rocked up and looks fantastic so I can do a good install of my wideband now!

Re: DanZig's NA6
Been ages since an update but there's still love here.
Been a quiet year tbh with a lot of my funds going to boring uncar related stuff. I've been using the skyline this year for my hillclimbs and have so far done Mt Alma mile again, a run in the winter cup at collingrove and recently willunga hillclimb. It's been great and I've fixed and cleaned the car up a fair bit and it's basically being used by my missus and me on the weekend.
Been great and the little MX has lied dormant for quite a while until today. I'm putting all performance mods on hold as I want to really focus a bit more on my driving so the plan is to give her a full service, fix the horrid exhaust leak, get some semi's and hit up some track days and super sprints at Mallala.
Went for a cold hills run and it's really rekindled my love for this simple little machine. While the Skyline is a lot faster the feedback and fun factor of the MX is just brilliant.
Hopefully be hitting track asap!

Re: DanZig's NA6
A couple of things have change. Sold the R32 as it was just getting a bit too clunky and have bought an Evo 6. Missus has always missed my Evo so it was no dramas selling her the idea of getting another. She's really enjoying it and it's been great. Did the last Collingrove multiclub challenge and pulled off a 36.8X. The plan with the car now was to run it stock with the ms for a while to learn the ropes of tuning and enjoy.
I finally pulled out my finger and installed the MS, had a play for a few hours and managed to get the car running pretty strong. A few weeks of autotune and it was running near stock once warm. Obviously given the amount of hot air the pod will be sucking in this was only a temp setup.
Only issue was I was getting a "E8" on my wideband often. Googling this could be a few issues so I decided I'd move the sensor further back and fix the exhaust leak while I was at it. Unfortunately pretty much the whole exhaust has had it so I decided that was as good reason as any to go turbo.
Shot is a mock up to make sure it all fits and happily, it does. I've tapped the sump and ordered the remaining parts so I can swap on my garrett T25 and get tuning. I'll be hopefully starting on the exhaust shortly. Also need to find some big snap ring (circlip) pilers so I can finish clocking the turbo as well.
Cannot wait to see how this thing goes with a little hairdryer. I've been talking about doing the conversion since I bought it so it'll be great to actually finish it off.
