NA 1.6 Exhaust Cat Back Exhaust -help me chosse

Postby Earlybird » Sat Sep 08, 2012 12:06 pm

Aaaarrgghhhh.....decisions decisions.

My newly acquired NA has an exhaust rattle which is slowly driving me insane. Every time I decelerate it sounds like I have an orchestra of canasta's playing in my rear pipes

To regain my sanity (and give me a reason to add bling) I have decided enough is enough and sentenced my original exhaust to a life far away from my undercarriage. However, this has now opened up the can of worms as to which new shiny stainless steel system I should choose to grace my undercarriage and give me aural pleasure.

The choices I am contemplating are:

Cobalt
Racing Beat
RoadsterSport 3
N Power

I'm not after a raspy sound that will provide a sonic boom anything over 4000rpm.
It mustn't drone and cause nausea whilst travelling at highway speeds.
The mid pipe shall include a resonator.
Something that sounds a little deeper and sportier than original would be perfect.

All the above are available from gomiata except n power. Are there any other recommended resellers that don't want your first born and the rights to your soul?

Roadstersport 3 for a NA does have a resonated midpipe and can be a little loud. Sounds great though and super light.

Cobalt i have also heard and was very quiet.

Racing beat is what i have wanted for awhile but shipping for that is stupid expensive for some reason.
Gomiata and goodwin both tell me it has to come from Racing Beat direct.

I see what you mean by stupid expensive freight..just got quoted $285 freight from Racing Beat direct....ouch

Funnily enough, both gomiata and rspeed sites show cheaper freight charges than that.

Sorry, i also meant Roadstersport does NOT have a resonated midpipe!!

Teach me for using my phone.

Gomiata and goodwin often contact you after buying something and demand more $$ for shipping.
Then just depends if you are happy to pay that or not.

Sir It's not on the list but I have an X Force 2 1/4 cat back exhaust for my na6 and I'm quite pleased with it. Not too loud and a good note.

Well I finally got around to fitting my new exhaust after deciding on going with a Racing Beat Cat back system. Fit and sound is great and I can notice a definite power gain over the original system.

I was hoping the new cat back system would eliminate the nasty rattling sound that was driving me crazy when decelerating but it still existed.

Next solution was a new catalytic convertor which eliminated a bit of the rattle sound but not all of it. I did however notice that that sound shielding on the pipe connecting the convertor to the exhaust manifold was slightly loose with no visible way to stop it from moving. Sooooo.....the question now is do I take this pipe off and remove the metal shielding (doesn't look like a fun job) or do I just buy a new set of headers and be done with it?

If going with new headers what brand is recommended by most on here? Currently only seen X Force, Hurricane and Genie advertised.
