I also think that NC modified class should be split Lightly Modified and Heavily Modified.

There are so many variables over 30 cars everyone could have a category and win a prize.
There are always going to be stand out cars and drivers that are unreachable by others, unless they invest the equivilent $ and seat time to compete.
We all know even diferant tyres make a huge diferance, disregarding S spec tyres, even the normal 'road' tyres vary so much.

My 2c is we have enough diferant categories. And many participants dont even care. They just enjoy the individual day events.

I know if charlie91 was a Club member, and ran in every event for the year, he would win the Turbo/Super Category and I would have no chance. Beaten by HP and Mods. Fair enough.

For the beginners group, is it split into modified and un modified? Or do all the noobs just get put on the track regardless of class?

How many cars are on the track at a time?

Also, what sort of times are the beginners running? And what sort of times for the level up?

I.M.O. the mx5 track days would be one of the most relaxed days, I've been to. I've ran in the beginners group a couple of times. People move out of the way, seems to a big lack of egos,I've never seen any dummy spits!

I'm no gun behind the wheel and spent a fair amount in the in feild
Had plenty of runs and a really good time, every time I've been.

Most of us just want to improve our driving and PBs.
It's more fun to compete with your own "nemesis" that's doing similar times to you.
It was a lot of fun witnessing the personal "battle" between Roger and Ross last time at QR when they compared lap times after each session.

regardless of what group you are in and how fast you or the other person is, there are rules we must ALL obey!! OK, flat out down the main straights if you like but NO ONE can overtake thru a corner, alleviates any risks! When I started back two [2] years ago I was damn slow [still am!!] but boy what fun!! I was on a high for days after! It's not the speed but the fun and challenge of simply having a go and having so many great people around in the pits who will give you plenty of hints and tips all in good faith.

Go out for the first run, set your own pace and work out the best linees thru corners and be aware of what your car can and can't do! After that, collect your laps times and then plan the next run and see where you think you can better that already laid down! Funny, set say a target of 1:20 or 80 secs for your first run, if you beat that then great! Settle into the next and see how that goes and if you can leave there with a time around 1:17 for the day consider that a great start, but only do what you feel comfortable with

Remember, quite a few have been running 3 years plus, have got to know the tracks and what their cars can do, it all takes time but as I said - SO MANY WIL BE THERE THAT WILL BE HAPPY TO ASSIST!!

there is plenty of selection. a MX5 club day normally attracts 40-50 cars, and there are about 150 places in the pits to choose.

There are 39 undercover carport pit parking areas at Willowbank though.

Times for 'Beginners' are really irrelevant, because there can be a big vareity of cars and drivers in that group.
Some may have never ven seen the track before, or dríven on any track.
It works fine normally, as after each successive run, the Compsec can adjust the group members so they are more closely matched.
Dont be alarmed if you are a gung ho racer, but first time there, and get put with some old grandma co driving hubbies DD.
If you prove your worth, you will get bumped up the groups accordingly.

Normally max of about 10-12 cars per group

PS Groups are based on laptimes not classes, modds or stds.

And if it rains......well thats another adjustment to make.

Thanks for the reply guys! I am more worried about being too slow. Something I forgot to ask is how overtaking is handled. Is it only on the straights? or do you have to wait for person to flagged out of the way? From what you said Nigel it sounds like free game?

Thanks for clearing that up zero. If someone is clearly slower in the corners, will they get flagged to get out of the way along the straights? It noticed at a practice day that you could be faster in the corners, but not be able to overtake on the straight due to the power difference.

Your too kind! haha! I seriously doubt 70's. The practice day I was braking waaayy to early and my lines were all over the place. I suppose time will tell.

Down the straights keep your line regardless of speed and watch your mirrors ALL the time, if you see another coming up behind, simple finger out the window [NOT pointing to the sky!!] is a polite way of saying 'I know you are there, pass me this side and I will keep out of the way!! In the 'slower' group there will be other drivers still gaining their confidence as well and if someone shows good speed they can be moved up into the next group to keep them balanced in relation to speed

Remember, it's good for a 'newbie' to walk pit lane and catch up with a few, ask some questions [NONE are stupid!] and I will guarantee you will get plenty of helpfull advice!! My car is the silver NB8A and will have #141 on the doors and also top left of the screen, look me up and I will introduce you around, no doubt you already know a few and met up with a few last Saturday as well.

For an idea of how it goes, my first run at Lakeside October 2010 I hoped to break 1:20, managed to get under that in the second run and finsihed the day with a 1:14.19 - and from there have slowly dropped down! My next target was to crack 1:10 and finally managed to get down to 1:09.55 and last meet dropped that to 1:09.16 - it's NOT easy to find another 1/2 a bl**dy second!! Now the target at Lakeside is 1:08's and QR 1:10's on the 'Clubman' circuit - we don't use the same full track the V8's use

If someone is consistently climbing all over you in the corners, but you have 347.5 rwkw and leave them for dead down the straight, you are still the slow car. The faster car (with less power) must be "allowed" to pass on the straight....or someone (the guy with all the power who's hogging) will be spoken to.

I've seen that at 'Track Attack' days at Lakeside, one day a guy fronted in a Ferrari and while 200+ down the straight would back off to 50-60 thru the corners and next thing a conga line of Excels ready to pass once on the straight, only to have him blast away and do the same corner after corner after corner!! I think a few had a 'polite' chat in his ear and next ting he was seen leaving thre the exit gate .. never to be seen again!!

I think 'plohl' will be one of our 'slower' newbies, getting used to the car and track and others out there, I'm sure he will come up and have a chat with a few of us and settle the nerves!! If he performs better than expected then UP A GROUP!!

Build expected November, could change to later [YUK!] not sure if I will have it for Christmas but then a couple of GTS's with aeros comning around the same time so could step up a notch much that I'm NOT into leather!
