Around 6 months ago there was somebody on here who used sandpaper to restore the weaterstrip along the top of their doors, rather than buying new ones for $120 (fair call).
I can't for the life of me find that post/thread again using search.
Please let me know if that was you, I was hoping to find out what exactly you used before I just hit it up myself.
Cheers
Marty

Unfortunately didn't see / don't remember the post from about 6 months ago, but an interesting approach to a common problem.

Ended up doing this, forget the weights but hit it up with sand paper then wet and dry, then Forever Black dye. it looks HEAPS better, all for $20 instead of $120. i've washed it once since.
i'll put some photos up soon.

That's the ticket!! Cheers mate.
So what he said.. i did that.. and it worked a treat!! Recommended restore job. If anybody tries this also, just be careful when removing the plastic clips. Lots of things i read on the net said the weatherstrip slides out towards the rear of the car, bugger that, it was impossible, i used a small flathead screwdriver to pop the clips up but dont push too hard or you'll snap one or two.

Re: Restoring weatherstrip by sanding - can't find original
My passenger side one has gotten worse than it was originally but it's warped and always has been so I think it was too far gone to start with, but the drivers side one is okay, i'm curious to see if that dye helped much?
I like my girls how I like my cars, topless.

Re: Restoring weatherstrip by sanding - can't find original
I purchased new ones from Mazda AU before for about that cost, not cheap is right!
I did not have any trouble sliding them out and was able to keep all of the clips intact, so if you do a restore jobby on your existing ones its definitely possible to not kill the pieces getting them off. I might do this rather than buy another set now in light of that info, as I need an improvement on the other cars weatherstrips.
If you were keen on new ones anyway, at the moment a good option would be to buy them from MX5Parts.co.uk as they are considerably cheaper over there!
