Re: MX5 Plus new TALL BOY bar
So I just put my tall boy in. I had the first generation toque box bar before that with the horizontal top bar. Rear visibility is a gajillion times better with the tall boy. Only issue is that the top bar is touching my hard top... There is a few mm yet to remove off of the spacer that goes on the seatbelt tower, so I am going to try remove some more of that. However, after raising this issue with MX5Plus they mentioned that it is designed to contact the hard top in two spots (where the tube is bent for the top of the top bar), and that I should use a thick rubber foam to prevent damage to hard top. It does sit very high though, much higher than the old one.

Re: MX5 Plus new TALL BOY bar
Does it interfere with the soft top at all?

Sorry, soft top has been removed. Soft top is lower than hard top though, so it will be pushing up the fabric at least, not sure about frame clearance.

I will find out soon exactly how close the fit is on a soft top when the GB from WA arrives. Can't wait!!

Re: MX5 Plus new TALL BOY bar
I think it touches the bar in the soft top on my NB...I'm not sure though because the roof closes and latches fine. It certainly does not push the vinyl out of shape.
Dont discount just how much 70mm of lost seat travel is.

Ground down the maximum amount off of the spacers, and contact is still being made at the peak of the roll bar
It is very high though
This is the stock seat rolled back as far as it can on its runners (on the stops), and then reclined back as far as it can, to show you the kind of seat travel you lose.

Re: MX5 Plus new TALL BOY bar
Looks like you are still sitting proud of the metal work surrounding where the spacer goes. Mine is installed so the bar sits on that metal work and the spacer. Is there somewhere else yours is resting?
I found that these MX5+ bars are a bit more time consuming to install but they are way more solidly mounted than the BD bars in my opinion. They are heavier to but I have more faith in them.

Re: MX5 Plus new TALL BOY bar
I put a spirit level on the front of the bar and it is already leaning foward by 1 or 2 degrees, so if I take any more off it will be leaning foward too much.
Deviant, do you have yours installed with a hard top??

Hey Mitch, don't suppose you could take a rear photo or drivers view photo through the mirror to get a feel for visibility lost ?
Cheers,

With two laps to go then the action will begin, unless this is the action, which it is.

With the standard rear view mirror, the cams spec cross bar can not be seen. I have a sparco sprint V on stock rails.

What he said. Visibility is almost 80%
Re: MX5 Plus new TALL BOY bar
Interested on feedback and experience with the + bar that incorporates a torque bar. I was recently advised that these bars can tighten the car up too much to the extent that the car can end up shuddering and shimmering and really screw these cars up in time. Has anyone experienced this complication from these bars at all? PS I had one installed on a '04 SE
