Thanks mate.

I have set the cable but it is quite stiff.
Compared to previous 2 mx5s a fair bit more effort is required to depress the pedal.

my guess is either the throttle body is the cause or the cable is rusty or something and causing extra friction.

Another issue to add to the list

CAR IS DRIVE-ABLE!!!

YAYS :P

Finally got a chance to get the car into SPINNING WHEEL for them to work their Magic.
Nothing special, just a normal street alignment for now.
Image

It always shocks me after an alignment just how big of a change it makes to the car.
Felt like a million bucks.

Here is how the car sits now with the height roughly set for now and alignment.
Image

After the alignment i ran over to Carlton to pick up a passenger seat.
I can now take a buddy in the car
Image

I kind of got used to having no passenger seat and it actually feels cramped now.
I am sure i will adjust.

And as always, i have fixed a few issues only to be confronted with a few more.
The car started to overheat in traffic today and i never noticed the fan come on.
Once i was moving or turned the heater on it all went good.
I have replaced the radiator cap this afternoon as the old one was not making a great seal.
Would not have been helping the situation.

With just over 100k's i have used up half a tank of fuel.
I have also noticed under hard acceleration what seems to be just black fuel coming out the exhaust.
I believe the rear coolant temp sensor could be faulty.
I will change that next week when i do the cas o-ring, cam cover gasket & Thermostat
Image

I have a weird idle issue too.
The car on a cold start idles really low, like 600rpm.
When hot it idles at 1000rpm and even with the idle screw maxed out it will not go down.
Shorting GND and TEN do not seem to make any effect.

Could i be correct in thinking the COOLANT SENSOR if buggered would be making the ECU go into a safe mode or at least just always thinks it is cold and hence why it is drinking fuel like a pig???

Yup of wouldn't look to far at idle till the temperature sensor is fixed. Seeing as it's a na6/8 are the fans still controlled by the front sensor?

i believe it still uses the front thermosensor to control the fan.

I will test it out by grounding it to a chassis ground and seeing if it turns the fan on.

A few goodies arrived.

Bought a "GENUINE  " Sparco wheel.
The car came with a Autotechnica 320mm wheel and i really wanted a larger wheel so i could actually see the gauges.
This wheel was $85 delivered, arrived in like 3 days and fits the stock boss on a MOMO equipped car.

Image

It is actually quite decent for the low low cost.
Image

It has 3" offset which will be nice to get it away from my legs and i will should be able to stretch out a little.
Image

I also received my Brake Master Cylinder Brace from OMGPHAM.
Hoping this will help reduce pedal travel a bit with my SE Brakes.
Very nice bit of kit.
Looks like it will install easily enough.
Image

I have been flat out working so have not had a chance to do much with the car.
Will hopefully have a chance later next week.

Is it just the angle of the photo, or is the white centre mark slightly off centre?

Haha,it could very well be.

For $85 delivered to my door i just, wanted something with offset and larger diameter.

Though i might check and send them an email saying -
1. It is clearly not Genuine.
2. Centre is off center

And see if they hook me up :)

It's weird how much our cars have in common.
-Cheap purchase price
-Red
-NA6 (mine doesn't have a 1.8 though :( )
-NB8A wheels
-Hard top
-No soft top
-Tan seats, but not for long
-Autotecnica steering wheel, which was replaced because you can't see the top of the gauges.

Had yesterday afternoon work free and decided to try and fix those awful gauges that came with the car.

Image

These gauges are so bright and woeful.
Plus the needles do not light up so they are basically useless.

Upon getting the cluster mostly free i found this weird wiring loom behind them i was not expecting.
Image

Image

It turns out the gauges themselves do not use Bulbs for their light. They themselves are the light. It is like built in LED lighting into the face itself.
So this loom was to provide 12v to the faces.
Image

Image

I had been gathering OEM bits and pieces from clusters to be able to convert these back to stock.
Turns out that was a waste of time!!

emily_mxV and Spikes where at my place and it was Emily that discovered that behind these dodgy gauges, the originals lay in slumber

Image

So off came the hideous faces.
Image

I was going to just set the needles in the car and go with this but i had in my possession STIRLING Tacho and Speedo gauge faces from REV_LIMITER.

Image

Decided they would look alright with the OEM Oil, Fuel and Water temp faces so i installed these.
I followed his online instructions and chewed away at the plastic section with 3 lights inside.
This is to illuminate the bottom of the tacho as 0rpm is now at about 1 o'clock.

Image

Image

Needle nosed pliers make short work of this.

I also had bought from OMG_PHAM, a stainless gauge surround and centres.
As some of you had seen i tried to remove the plastic cover with no real success.
So i have decided, rather than break it, i will run with just the centres and leave the stainless piece out.
I also had chrome needle caps for the oil, water and fuel which i have used.
I actually think it will look pretty classy.
Even though this car is anything but

Image

I now need to clean the clear plastic front as it is filthy and then i will have to set the needles in the car as only the speedo is self returning.
This should be ok.
I have just pressed the needles very lightly on.
So i will have to go through various procedures to make them all read correctly.

All in all, i think it is going to look pretty decent.

I am missing a few bulb holders though.
So if anyone has a few of the little electrical holders available please let me know.
Or even if you know where you can get them?

Wrecking yard.

It's probably the same parts as in any other Mazda from the same time period. Being a tiny little bulb holder they'll probably want bugger all for them.

Hey mate.

Have the stainless faces arrived? It's going to look so good with those gauge faces!
